“Character and calmness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012 via mobile

Beautifully designed and constructed wooden building with a fantastic sense of character and outstanding views over Grand Lake and the Rockies. Friendly and helpful staff. Small but useful kitchen. A great base for walking and cycling.

This property has outstanding views. The cabin was very roomy. The deck sat out over a huge clift with a raging river below. You could hear the water through out the cabin. The cabin was very cozy. The cabin was built in the 1950's. It could us some remodeling. We really enjoyed our stay it fit our purposes. We really enjoyed the views and how quiet it was. We would stay here again when in the area. It was a good value for the money.

Our family just spend 3 nights at the Overlook Cabin. Funky, but clean and spacious. Our own deck overlooked the stream, mountains, and the lake. Great vibe to the place. Tremendous value, hard to believe is was the least expensive place we stayed on our CO trip as it was by far the most enjoyable.

Grand Lake, CO is one of my most favorite places in Colorado and Shadowcliff is the best place stay when I am there. It is family friendly, in close proximity to town, and offers relaxation in progressive atmosphere. If your in the mountains to enjoy the views, wildlife, and trails Shadowcliff is the place to use as base camp.

Room Tip: East facing rooms avoid the heat from the setting sun.

My first Shadowcliff experience was 4 years ago and I was immediately hooked. I love the simple, rustic (but comfortable) rooms with beautiful views from every window. A short walk down the hill is the charming little town of Grand Lake, Co where you can find great food, miniature golf, summer theater, and quaint shops. By far, the best thing about Shadowcliff is being on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. There are trails galore in some of the most breathtaking country I've ever seen. Wildlife abounds and wildflowers are gorgeous. I look forward to my yearly summer visit to Shadowcliff for renewal in the Rockies.

I've been coming to Shadowcliff off and on since the late 1970's as an individual, with families, with friends. There is simply no better place to create a memorable vacation at any time in the summer or early fall. The view of the lake, the meditative spirit of the point and chapel, the ambiance of the lodge, the value of the cabins, the meals when groups are visiting (you can purchase meals if they happen to be cooking for a group), the interaction with other guests, the proximity to trails and to town...the list of great things goes on and on. You will not go wrong staying here.

Room Tip: Rooms in the lodge overlooking the lake can't be beat. Their cabins are incredibly reasonable as...

Most of my Shadowcliff experiences have involved runners, mostly eager high school ones. The trail environs around Shadowcliff make you want to run all day, coming across bighorn sheep, elk, plentiful moose, foxes, osprey, encountering mountain meadows resplendent with colorful and varied blooms, challenging the perimeters of beautiful and roaring falls, being taxed but exhilarated by imposing inclines, joyfully letting gravity plunge us back to the flats, tightroping narrow bridges spanning exuberant creeks, riding bicycles into Rocky Mountain National Park singing Peter, Paul, & Mary (a clue to the geezer's age), taking another plunge into the breathtaking but restorative chill of Grand Lake. But your stay at Shadowcliff doesn't have to proceed at the light speed of an active teenager. All of the aforementioned sights and activities can be enjoyed (perhaps even more so) at hiking or slower pace. Exhausted after your fun outdoor day? Walk downtown: go bowling, sign up for the world championship of miniature golf, eat pleasurable food and fine ice cream, laugh and clap with joy during an impressive performance at the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre, enjoy a moonlit walk back to Shadowcliff.

Shadowcliff is a low-key place to relax. It's staff (mostly active, energetic but extremely polite and capable college students) works hard and is always eager to help. The lodge is a fine place to just sit and read or to just think about things or not to think about a durn thing or about how smart your phone is. The accommodations are clean, rustic, and affordable, with most rooms providing a double bed and bunk beds. And, if you're of a mind to, you can sign up for meals deliciously and healthily prepared by the Shadowcliffers.

I hope I see you out there, and you can tell an old man what you think. (I notice that there is a disclaimer at the bottom of this waiver that I have no personal relationship to the people who run Shadowcliff. I must admit that I am friends with the management and that I have run trails and roads and fields with them for decades. I must also admit that I like my friends. But I must finally say that all I have written reflects my true enjoyment of Shadowcliff and Grand Lake.)
