“Great location, service and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

We were looking for a place to eat when passing through Grand Lake, and luckily the nice woman at the bookstore recommended we walk a block off of Grand Street to the Rapids Lodge Restaurant. We are so glad we didn't settle for the typical tourist spot on the main drag.

We were given a wonderful table outside next to a running stream, away from other people. Our server Matt was friendly, attentive and helped us decide on what we wanted for lunch. It was really nice to hear from him about the local area and what it is like to live in Grand Lake.

Take a chance, and eat at the Rapids Lodge Restaurant. Maybe someday we'll get to stay there was well in in this historic lodge.

“Fantastic Dinner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

We were in Grand Lake for the 4th of July Fireworks and wanted to find a place for dinner. The restaurants on the the main street were all full and a storm was closing in so I got on Yelp and found this restaurant was a couple blocks away. What a great find! The setting is beautiful next to the river rapids. The service was OK, but from start to finish this one of the best dinners we have experienced since moving to Colorado! We started with the Brie which was wonderful. My wife had the filet and I have the special which was buffalo medallions. Both were excellent. Even though Grand Lake is 3 hours from our home we will find a reason to return.

“Tasty Brunch on the Rapids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Stopped in Grand Lake while traveling through for an early lunch. Rapids Lodge is tucked away off the Main Street and around the corner. Beautiful place and on the rapids as the name suggests. We were seated out back next to the rapids with a view of the mountains. We needed a light jacket but no complaints as it was too beautiful. We ordered a burger with everything and a turkey melt - both on a pretzel bun with the house pasta salad. Yum!!! It was SO good. Between the food and the view along with the sound of rushing water next to us, it was so nice!! It was slightly pricey for sandwiches but I would consider the caliber of the sandwiches gourmet so it was not too much an issue. I would definitely eat there again and would have quite a problem trying to give any other restaurant in town a chance after eating here.

“Excellent Food, but Poor Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

The food at Rapids Lodge is amazing - our filet and salmon were cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing. The salads were large and fresh. The restaurant looks out over a beautiful mountain stream, so the setting is divine.
However, our service was not good. Our waitress never smiled and failed to ask if we wanted a refill on our glasses of wine. After dinner, we were never offered coffee or dessert (we didn't want any of those things, so it didn't matter, but it's always nice to be asked.
In addition, we were staying at the hotel and at one point, were having a glass of wine by the river. We were told that, because we weren't eating there that night, we weren't allowed to sit in that particular spot and had to move. The restaurant wasn't crowded, so it seemed more like an unfriendly gesture more than anything else.
Hopefully, this experience isn't normal, because the food deserves a friendly and well-served staff to go along with it's high quality.

“Wonderful Dinner in the Rockies”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

On our last trip up to Grand Lake, CO we decided to try a restaurant we had heard about but had never been to. The Rapids Lodge and Restaurant is tucked away at the East end of town. The main lodge has been there for a 100 years and is actually part of the history of Grand Lake. It was such a great dining experience, I wanted to share. We arrived at 5:30. Our hostess was friendly and gracious seating us at one of the window tables that looks out over the Tonahutu Creek. You could not ask for a more scenic view while dining. We were not in a hurry and ordered a bottle of wine and the phyllo baked brie for a starter. We never felt rushed or hurried by or server or the staff...just enjoying a evening by he river. I ordered the Ahi Tuna and my husband ordered the Elk Medallions. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. He had never eaten Elk before so it was something really tasty and different. We finished the meal with vanilla bean cheese cake with a berry sauce and then set for awhile longer and finished our wine. It was not just dinner it was a true dining adventure. We will be going back and may even stay at the lodge the next time. If you go to Grand Lake...make plans for a meal at the Rapids.
