“Somewhat of a Letdown”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

We stayed at the Lodge and were really looking forward to an outstanding meal based upon reviews we had read. We ordered the Rocky Mountain Trout and the Elk Medallions. While the Elk Medallions were passable, I found them to be a bit tough. The most that can be said for the Rocky Mountain Trout is that it was mediocre and quite average. Our server was very attentive.

Given our expectations and the higher prices, I may be being kind with the average rating?

“Appropriately named as there are beautiful rapids next to the dining room.”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

We had lunch at the Rapids Lodge Restaurant on the recommendation of a local hiker we met that morning. The restaurant is not on the main street through Grand Lake and is not something you would drive by unless you are looking for it. The restaurant is connected to a lodge and some cabins nearby.

There were not too many choices on the lunch menu and even fewer choices for sides to go with the limited meals. But after eating the very large burger I ordered, I was not all that hungry for a side anyway. My wife loved her salad and thought it was outstanding. We had a hush-puppy appetizer that consisted of 4 large hush-puppies with a dipping sauce for $12. Not a good value. The prices were very high for a lunch menu.

The food was very good and the atmosphere wonderful as the dining room sits next to a roaring mountain stream and there are tables outside for warm days to have lunch or dinner. I do think the prices were too high for the food we had.

“Great Meal in Grand Lake”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

We really enjoyed our dinner at the Rapids. Seated by a window overlooking the rapids, the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Service was impeccable. on the night we were there, a weeknight so it wasn't too crowded. In fact, I think there was only one other couple besides our group of 10.

Although a bit pricy, ($120 for 2) there was something for everyone on the menu. My wife had the trout and I the lamb. Both were cooked to perfection. Others in the group had the elk which they raved about.

“Fine dining in grand lake”
Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

If you enjoy quiet, fine dining this is the place for you. We went to this restaurant based solely on the recommendations of tripadvisor and they were right on. We made last minute reservations and although all of the tables by the windows looking out at the beautiful stream were taken, we were given a nice corner table with some view of the stream. We were greeted immediately by our server sue. She was amazing. We ordered the shrimp and tomato appetizer which was delicious. Entrees were scallops on top of crab cakes and a peppercorn filet. Both entrees were delicious. We were unable to stay for dessert because of theatre tickets but we wish we had. Creme brûlée missed that. Next time we will make reservations for a table by the window so we can enjoy the beautiful view. This restaurant is as good as some of the fine dining restaurants in my home town of Fort Lauderdale. Grand lake you should be proud of them.

“Good food served with a side of attitude”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

Enjoy the setting by the river. The food and presentation are great- I always get the elk medallions, but we haven't had a bad meal yet. The martinis are perfect. The waitpeople act as if they are doing you a favor. Ditto the bartenders. I haven't figured out if the don't enjoy their jobs or think the job is beneath them (waiting tables paid my way through college) but it is the only bummer experience you will have. If you sit outside by the river and want a drink you will need to get it yourself. We have been going here on and off about 3 times a year for 10 years and the food and service have always stayed the same.
