My husband and I made a reservation at The Rapids for our 25th wedding anniversary, and made a point of letting them know that it was a special occasion. Our reservation was for 7:00. We arrived, literally, at 7:08, and were told by the hostess that she gave our table away "because we were so late". We then waited for a table, and were finally seated at a very small table next to a big post. Our waiter then took forever to approach us - but maybe that was because of the post. While we were sitting there waiting for him, another table next to the window overlooking the river opened up. My husband got up and asked the hostess if we could please move to that table, and reminded her of our special occasion. She told him that "everyone's having a special occasion here", and that she "couldn't be moving people around all night". We had not even been served water at this point. I really wanted to leave, but we ended up staying and our food was very nice. I would not return to this restaurant, I would not recommend it, and I would certainly NEVER go there for a special occasion.

We had read reviews in Fodors and Trip Advisor which led us to find this off-the-beaten-path restaurant. So glad we did! The meal was excellent, service warm and attentive, and the view and sound of the rapids great. We had the Filet with bearnais and the Sirloin, which were perfectly prepared. What a nice treat in an otherwise cowboy rustic locale.

We've eaten here once or twice a year for many years, but this past visit didn't live up to our past experiences. For the price you pay per meal, our quality and presentation could have been better. This was always one of our favorite places, so hopefully we just hit on a bad night.

After reading some reviews we were a bit hesitant to eat at Rapids, but our experience at this restaurant was quite pleasant. The river was roaring outside with snow melt and we had a table by the window. The salmon was excellent, potato soup, good and the creme brulée was tasty. A $15 fee was added because we shared, but the meal was filling. Overall, we liked this restaurant and would eat there again. Oh, and the guitarist/singer was a nice addition on the Sat. night that we were there.
