“I am repeating myself but, as with all GL restaurants, it can be great or a bust.”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

I have had both great meals with great service here and bunk meals with bad service here. The patio is more informal than the dining room. When you first walk in you may not be met at right away. Hang around and someone will show up. There aren't that many restaurants in GL and this is one of the best. Kind of expensive for what you get.

“Once was more than enough”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

The Daven Haven Restaurant was recommended to us for the best meal in Grand Lake. We booked for a table of seven, but on arrival, once the receptioniost had finished her giggling chat with a collegue, we found that no effort had been made to provide a table for 7 and we had to drag adjoing tables together ourselves. Our waiter eventually arrived, took our order, delivered our drinks, and disappeared for an hour. We finnaly started eating 75 minutes after arriving. My partners salmon was raw and encased in soggy uncooked pastry. The beef however was good and cooked as requested.
Not a happy experience, made worse by the discovery that a local diner in town, Sagebrush, served better, less expensive food, with much more efficient and charming staff.

“Charming”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

Romantic celebration dinner... very nice. Sat in the outdoor patio for drinks & the two-appetizers-for-$10 "happy hour" special. Then to the charming dining room which is not extra-fancy but has a lovely, quiet, old-lodge sort of feel. Our meals were delicious (beef rib meat... stuffed chicken breast) & it was especially nice to get real salad or soup, vegetables & a starch included with the price of the meal. Service was good. We'll definitely return... but will stay away during "specials" nites & busy tourist-season crowds.

“Disappointing Dinner”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

We went there last night for dinner anticipating a quality meal as had been described by other reviewers. Tuesday they feature their "all you can eat shrimp night," and their regular menu items as well. My husband ordered the Shrimp Scampi and was served 4 small shrimp in a butter sauce, which was OK. However when he got seconds, the next 4 shrimp were just steamed with no seasoning or any kind. The "wild rice" served with it was some kind of rice mix with a bit of wild rice but mostly something else.

The server told us the cook didn't have time to put any butter on the shrimp because he was so busy. It was obvious their "Shrimp Scampi" is nothing more than steamed shrimp served with butter but only the first time it is served.

My steak came cold and basically raw not rare and even though it was described as "hand cut" it was an end piece and part was too tough to eat. The salads were very good but both meals were overpriced and not as described on the menu.

Curiously they provide bread plates but serve no bread. All in all this was a disappointing experience and we won't go back.
