We've stayed at The Rapids Lodge several times for our anniversary. On this trip, we stayed one night with our son in June. It's a great location and within easy walking distance to the lake and shopping.

The restaurant is just outstanding and one the main reasons, we come back as often as we can.

We stayed in a one-bedroom condo on the river. It was the perfect size for our family and we loved listening to the rushing river after a spectacular day of hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Grand Lake is a pretty simple place, and the lodging choices are not fancy. The Rapids Lodge is a solid choice among the limited GL options, but not special.
We stayed in a condo. It was clean, with modest furnishings, a nonworking TV remote control, average linens. The condo is quite small. The location on the river is nice. The crib we requested was delivered but was very unsafe and not put together properly. We were able to get another one which was better, but not great. A solid, if unexciting, choice.

We stayed for two nights in one of the main hotel rooms. It was very comfortable, though staying during a heatwave we would have appreciated air-conditioning. The restaurant was fabulous, far and away the best place to eat in Grand Lake and probably our best meal in a two week trip to the area.

First of all, if you've never been to Grand Lake, you should go. It is breathtaking beautiful and a very tranquil place. The town has not been destroyed by development and has a rustic feel. Part of the charm of the town is the rustic atmosphere and most of the accommodations follow that rustic feel. (In other words, you are not going to find a luxury hotel here.)

The Rapids: The restaurant has rave reviews from many publications. We didn't eat there because I have small children, and it was more for fine dining. The complex is two blocks from the public beach and one block from the main drag, so everything is within walking distance. The staff was friendly. The buildings are located next to a river with fast moving rapids (hence the name). If you have small children who tend to run off, you may not want to stay there for that reason.

We stayed in condo 1A. I paid $95 for the night and felt that was about fair for the town and season. It was a basic room. Since it was so basic and nothing special, I gave the Rapids a three-star rating.

Very friendly, great area. We just came back from Colorado and I loved the Rapids Lodge. The stuffed chicken at the restaurant was excellent. They have a fox that likes to visit - my husband saw him twice I never saw him, I was jealous. The locals are nice and the Lariat bar (which is a short walk) has a true Colorado feel.

We stayed in the Rapid Suites. 'Can't beat the fact that the Suites are new (2000), very clean, and well-equipped for a family of four. One caveat, however, is the noise from upstairs units. If you stay downstairs, you will hear every step from above....so insist on an upstairs unit or bring earplugs.

Stayed at the Rapids Lodge in their new suite rooms on July 1st and 2nd, 2004. We had a 1 bedroom suite which included a full kitchen and seperate bedroom area. The suite was very large, clean, and was very cheap for the area. It is within easy walking distance of downtown Grand Lake. Our entire family loved the Grand Lake area. This area is less crowded and cheaper than Estes Park. Thought the restaurant at the hotel was just ok and very pricey. We are planning on staying at the Rapids Lodge again in a 1 bedroom suite sometime in the near future.
