#39--!/2 cabin with queen bed & sofa

This cabin / lodge has been a longtime family favorite. The reason for the title of this
review is that the lodge building and the immediate grounds have the best setting & view of all
Grand Lake's lodging while the actual lodging is in old, mostly small cabins ( but nicely remodeled). In the lodge building (which has no lodging) there is a very nice gift shop, lounging area with great fireplace, bar, & restaurant. Then there is that porch with the swings--one could
easily kill hours enjoying the view from there.
Our very clean cabin had a very good bathroom (shower only)-plenty of toiletries & towels; a good bed, though tucked into a corner which made one side difficult to enter/exit; a mini fridge &
microwave; a ceiling fan; two electric heating units; hair dryer; one bedside lamp; small tv
The main shortcoming of this unit is its smallness--there is very little space to put suitcases,
hang clothes, or keep any extra stuff such as hiking equipment. It is a 2 person unit-max.
This particular unit has a very small front "porch with a bench--shared with attached unit #38
While the setting of the property is great for the views, it is not within easy walking
distance of town or restaurants other than the on-site restaurant.

It proved to be "not a big deal", but the morning of our arrival day we were called and told
that all king cabins were overbooked so we took the offered queen; not clear if the king
1/2 cabin is bigger but it is $50 more per night--probably worth asking about the room size as
a bigger bed in the same size room would be really cramped.

Room Tip: limited number of cabins on the south row have nice views--several have outside tables

overall, the grounds of the lodge were great and the location was ideal to get back and forth to the lake and town. Although the rooms were clean and seem to be updated recently, it was not what I expected. The rooms were hard to walk through if you had more then two ppl in them.

The Lodge was very nicely decorated, however the restaurant prices were a bit overboard. We went for breakfast and were told it was a buffet and the cost was $22, we went into town. We stayed with another couple and experienced a few shortfalls. First, we had asked for our rooms to be close to each other, they were not, no big deal. Our friends TV didn't work and when we explained this to the desk we were told that it was a problem with a lot of the rooms, it was eventually corrected with a new cable box. Their room had no chair, we gave them one from our room. Next we were COLD all night, the heaters worked but the room temperature didn't get over 60 degrees. The room size was small with barely enough room to move around the bed. The shower is smaller than my travel trailer shower.
The view from the lodge is spectacular but from the room nothing to see. Next year we will stay in town.

We attempted to check in the Lodge on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. We had booked the Honeymoon Cabin and were so looking forward to staying there. We drove from Estes Park over the mountains and attempted to check in. The person behind the desk could not gived us good directions to get to our cabin. We looked for our cabin for 45 minutes without finding it. We called and they promised to send someone right a way to lead us to the cabin.
That person never showed up. We called again and asked to speak to a manager. The assist General Manager asured she would send someone righrt away. Again we did not see any one. So we went back and said we did not want to stay there and could they find us another place to say.
The General Manager, while his assistant was finding a place to stay, obviously didn't want to hear my frustration. When I asked him about his attitude, he said "I know there is nothing I can do to make you happy." I asked if this is the way he treated a good customer and his reply was that "I had done nothing to prove to him that I was a good customer.: The lack of training of his staff was a direct reflection of his attitude.
And then to make matter's worse the place they sent us to get a cabin was a dump. We gave up
and drove b ack across the Rocky Mountain National Park and were fortunately to find a great place to stay. No one at the Lodge ever called to see how we were or did we like our room.
I lived in Colorado for 16 years and I know what a great reputation the Lodge has. I strongly suggest if your going to that beautiful Grand Lake you find another, friendler place to stay.
If you want to talk to someone who has tried to stay there please contact me.

It's too bad that the once-magnificent trees around Grand Lake are practically non-existant now, but despite that fact, Grand Lake Lodge is a wonderful place to stay! From the outside, the cabins don't look like much, but inside, they are cozy and full of amenities like newly-remodeled bathrooms, comfortable beds, tasteful decor, and -- in our cabin, anyway -- a nice sitting room with a fridge and seating. Our large cabin even had two bathrooms!

We stayed too early in the season for the pool to be open, but the views from the patio are absolutely gorgeous. The food in the restaurant is fantastic and the service impeccable -- be sure to sit out on the all-glass patio if you can! The gift shop has some really unique items and souveniers and it was more fun to browse there than at your typical genaric gift shop.

We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return!

We stayed overnight on September 14th on our way to Kremmling Co. We had passed this way before and said if we ever came by we would stay. It is an old hotel built at the turn of the century with a big fireplace in main lodge. Dining on the enclosed deck with decent food and decent prices. The rooms/cabins are clean and prices are very reasonable. The view is spectacular which is why we wanted to stay. Cabins are off from the main hotel/lodge. I think you stay for the view and location in Rocky Mt. Nat'l Park

Lodge nice, Food is awesome and bartender could not have done it better! In #13, end unit. large king bed, and most normal hotel amenities. pillows on bed were very small. Bed comfy. Room was cold even with heater on. We had to call desk for iron, (no board), and extra suitcase stand, which they bought right to us. Had to go to the bar to ask for ice, there are no machines but I was given a half bag of Ice which was plenty for the first night. Outside pop machines, 1 can costs $2.50. wow! back in room we find that it is really slanted and have to pace uphill and things roll back toward the window, 2 cup coffee pot, the teeny shower that you cannot turn around in, and a bathroom door that has to be tied up because it NO place to hang clothes, if you want to be unwrinkled bring your own garment rack. TV stand with 2 drawers, and a coat hook for a couple coats. It was a nice time for us but will not pick this one again as is too expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: Bring more pillows, coffee, utensilsl, just like cabin style. ask for Ice, but you dont get a bucket...
