“Very pretty and close to family parks”

Western Colorado Botanical Gardens
Reviewed October 12, 2017 via mobile

I would plan to spend maybe a couple hours here. It's not huge but if you take your time it's enjoyable. There are local plants and plants from around the world. It's 3.00-5.00 per person to get in. There are resident animals like box turtles, a tortoise, koi, beautiful butterflies and friendly bees; and even a cat. The butterfly pavilion is pretty but it's really hot in there. The temperature read 102 degrees. There is a castle and secret garden for the kids. Just outside is a playground for kids and a disc golf course right on the Colorado River. It's a cool place to walk or just hang out.

The fundraising events always bring in bands popular with the locals. Very low key and pleasant evening of great music all for a good cause.

This set of gardens has native plants, cultivated plants, water gardens, exotic plants, sculpture and a butterfly room. It is beautiful all spring, summer and fall. You can visit the indoor gardens in the winter.

The gardens sponsor some festivals. But the reason I love to go is the flowers in the spring. The iris, in particular, make a gorgeous display.

The butterfly room is double doored to keep the butterflies inside. It is a spectacular place to take children and the elderly. The butterfly room and the indoor gardens are handicap accessible!
