..not a hotel. I took my girl scout troop and we had a wonderful time. Crafts, campfires. hiking, canoeing, rafting, zip lining and beautiful views. The staff were terrific and there of lots of lodging and activity options. An older place, but certainly not "roughing it". A great spot year round.

This "resort" sadly lost most of it's trees to the pine bark beetle infestation so it looks a bit sad & depressing. The summer view without snow in the mountains is rather dry & brittle.
The dining hall has great windows & high beamed ceilings with exposed ductwork which would have seemed like a modern, lofty atmosphere except for all dusty, junky, dated decor hanging all over. The cafeteria line has cheap plastic trays & dishes in bright colors. The food choices are rather good although meals are pricey, esp for lunch & dinner. It can be very noisy for meals when the school groups are in. The food service staff seemed depressed in their jobs & were not at all professional looking. The place seemed to be run by college students. Also the dining hall sits up on a hill with a dirt road leading to it & very little parking so it could be difficult for some to get to.
Actually all the buildings & lodges are very spread out & not easy walking for everyone. Would suggest a small train to be running around the grounds or at least golf carts to shuttle guests around.
There are no adult lounges (alcohol only allowed inside guests rooms or inside the cabins) and no TV or A/C in the rooms either.
There are lots of family activities but some do cost extra like zip line, climbing wall, crafts, horseback riding, etc and the room rates are already on the high side for this type of "resort".
This might be the place for some families for summer or winter, depending on what they are looking for. It's about a 2 hour drive from Denver & about an hours drive to Grand Lake, a nice town right before the west entrance to Rocky Mtn Nat'l Pk. Also close to Sulphur Hot Springs pools.
The Estes Park Y is much nicer than here, however with the floods in Sep 2013, it may be hard to get there next summer with road closures/repairs. This facility isn't of the same quality, but may be an alternative for those who want to go to Rocky Mtn Nat'l Pk next summer.

We rented a cabin for two nights on the ranch since our friends were getting married there. We got a 3 bedroom cabin. It was nice that it had 2 full bathrooms. There was a full kitchen w/ a coffee maker and the entire cabin was clean, although there was a smell of "old" but I got used to it. Let me just be clear though, no frills about this cabin, but what do you expect its a cabin! We would definitely go back for sure!

Lots to see and do, great friendly staff and yummy food. I volunteered there for 2 weeks and when not working I rode horses, zip lined, and did some archery. The aspen were changing colors, the elk were bugling and the Rockies were beautiful. I will be back for sure!

We booked a room in the Aspenbrook lodge for the yearly Chinese Heritage Camp. Since it was a YMCA my expectations were not all that high. Yes it was dated but clean enough. We had 2 queen sized beds and a bunk bed in our room. There was also a great room and meeting rooms in the lodge. We ate in the cafeteria for breakfast and it was preety good with nice variety. We had friends that stayed in one of the new cabins (Number 61) and it was outstanding very new with a breathtaking view. Rollerskating was free and the pool was fine although we never had time to swim. We will be back for heritage camp next year and will stay on the property although we are talking about getting one of the reunion cabins with 8 bedrooms since we traveled with a large group.

The most redeeming feature of this property is the beautiful cabins that have spectacular views of the mountains. The ranch is definitely worn and not kept up. Every amenity they offer from roller skating to the pool is poorly maintained and worn and in barely working condition. Their is very little attention to detail in the cabins. An example of lack of detail: they don't even put one single bar of soap in any of the bathrooms. We enjoyed the roller skating rink. The staff is overall unfriendly and seem to not like working there. They charged us $25 a night to rent a DVD player. This is something that most rental cabins/houses have as a convenience. We all slept poorly on the bad quality mattresses.

Our anniversary week at Snow Mountain Ranch was all we had hoped it to be. The accomodations (Indian Peak Lodge) and food and activities (walking stick making, frontier history info and church) were all appreciated. All the staff we met were very helpful and friendly. We loved the freedom to go on our own mountain day trips in our rented car. We came by Amtrack. We would definitely like to go again. Beautiful, inspirational, relaxing mountain views.
