Words can't describe the incredible time our family had at the Drowsy Water Ranch. When we left home, the kids (6 and 10) complained about being without tv and video games for an entire week. The Drowsy Water staff somehow managed to keep them from thinking about their electronics for the whole week and by the time we left, they were in tears and begging us to come back next year. They were kept so busy with chickens, duck chasing, trail rides, camp fires, skits, crafts, fishing in the kid friendly stocked pond, and fun nightly activities, that 'Playstation' and 'cell phone' never even entered their heads.
The adults were certainly not left out of the fun. With confidence that the buckaroos were being taken care of, we were able to enjoy gorgeous trail rides with knowledgeable wranglers, adult only dinners-we had a great flank steak dinner, a Friday night happy hour, and a country western sing along.
Family activities included square dancing (our favorite activity), a carnival, a staff show, hiking with Randy Sue, a wonderful breakfast trail ride, Jeep Trips, and rafting.
Now you certainly can't review a dude ranch without discussing the horses. I was a bit afraid that we were going to be put on Killer and Destroyer and spend the entire ride looking at our wrangler's back. That couldn't be further from the truth. The Foshas did an excellent job of pairing riders with appropriate horses, and the wranglers (many college students) were articulate, engaging, and helped us improve our riding throughout the week. One woman's city slicker husband was talking about buying his own horse by the end of the week. Now my husband and I are certainly not experienced riders by any means, but we're positive that even those with lots of experience would have fun. For the more adventurous, there are loping rides, all day rides, and cattle drives. No matter what level rider, everyone enjoyed good company and wonderful vistas-First Point and Breakfast ride provided excellent picture opportunities.
The Foshas really welcomed us into their family, and we really felt that we were part of a working ranch. Comfortable accommodation, friendly guests, and hearty meals rounded out a fantastic vacation. This is definitely going to turn into a family tradition.
