Owner description: The Boettcher Mansion provides a rare combination of historic authenticity and modern amenities from its secluded setting inside the Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve in Golden, CO, only a half-hour drive west of Denver. Built in 1917 as a summer home and seasonal hunting lodge for Charles Boettcher, the former "Lorraine Lodge" was donated to Jefferson County in the 1970s for public use and enjoyment. In 1984, the Arts and Crafts estate was listed on the National Register of Historic Places External Link Icon and now serves as Jeffco's premier historic events venue. A division within the Jefferson County Parks department, the Mansion is self-sustaining, supporting itself primarily from event fees. An impressive example of adaptive re-use, the one-time family residence is perfectly suited for all kinds of social gatherings, including weddings, receptions and commitment ceremonies, along with memorial services and other commemorative milestones. Carefully preserved and sensitively updated in 2005-07, this rustic yet polished architectural gem offers a stunning backdrop for conferences, dances, executive retreats, family reunions, film shoots, fundraisers, lectures, musical performances and trade shows...to name just a few of our ongoing functions.

Dark and not very interesting or interactive. Maybe we missed something, but I didn't see much to see, learn, or do.

“Mansion now event center”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2011

This was once a glorious home in the Arts and Crafts style. From the outside it looks Tudor, but the timbers are half-round logs. Unfortunately, it is not a house museum, there is not tour. The rooms are not decorated in a period style. This mansion is now used for weddings and other events. Most is not accessible and the remainder is offices. Definitely not worth a visit on it's own. If you are going to the small but good nature center next door, walk over and have a look.

“Another amazing view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2011

We found this on a Sunday drive with the family. Unfortunately, the Boettcher mansion is only open Mon-Fri 8-4, so we couldn't go in. We were able to walk around and visit the Nature Center on the property. But the real reason to go is the views in every direction since this site provides great views out onto the range, Denver, the mountains to the north, west, and south.

Make sure you head back before late afternoon on Sundays as that is when half the state is returning from weekend trips to the mountains...

“Be sure to visit Boettcher Mansion on Lookout Mountain”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2010

Not far from Bill Cody's grave site on Lookout Mountain near Golden, Colorado, is this historic Boettcher Mansion. It was built as a summer home and hunting lodge by Charles Boettcher. He was born in Germany and came to America to work in a hardware store with his brother. He died at age 96. His grandaugher lived there in the 1960's and upon her death in 1972 she donated the estate to Jefferson County for public use.

Be sure to check out the Jefferson County Nature Center near the house. It is county run and has a great children's area. There are pictures in the center from a motion sensitive camera of animals that visit - such has mountain lion, mule deer, elk, bob cat etc. We had a nice chat with an elderly lady who was a volunteer and talked about all the fund raising that went in to building this very nice facility.

There are hiking trails - so plan on spending some time and enjoy this lovely area! Not far off the interest. Just follow the signs.
