Owner description: The Astor House is closed to the public for historic rehabilitation. Built in 1867 when Golden was the territorial capital, the Astor House stayed in continuous operation as a boarding and rooming house until 1971, serving legislators, miners, and students. With one of the first bathtubs in town, the Astor House also attracted trail-dusted visitors willing to pay 25 cents for a hot bath. Although the tub is no longer used for soaking, a visit to the Astor House Museum will show you why it’s on the National Register of Historic Places!

The Astor House is one of those treasures that Golden has and enjoys sharing with residents and visitors alike. Everything about the Astor House takes one back in time from the equipped kitchen to the period beds in the upstairs rooms. The little gift shop has aprons by a local seamstress and cute items for the kids. It's always a fun visit for me.

This is an historic two story boarding house. Small, but also inexpensive. Very helpful volunteer staff, and well-appointed as a step back in time. Only worth the time if you are in love with Golden.

This former boarding house has been well preserved to show what rooming houses were like in the gold rush days. We enjoyed it.

This house is an old boarding house. There was a small fee to go in and look but we are happy to help with the upkeep of these old buildings that are so lovingly preserved. This is a self-guided tour. You just wander through the house looking at the old furniture, books, beauty supplies, old-fashioned 3D photo viewers(you can touch these), and an old bathtub that was the first one in town! Lovely (rebuilt) porch on 2nd floor. I love the wallpaper and the squeaky floorboards too. Would definitely not take young children in here. Lots of Do Not Touch signs.
