Just $3 to go in, it was a bargain. Very carefully thought out museum with some lovely exhibits. Very friendly lady at reception who explained everything and kept the gift shop open a little longer for me in case I wanted to buy anything. Will take about an hour to go round, very well maintained and a delight to pop in and see.

It doesn't take much time or money to see this at your own pace and you get a souvenir included in the price that you get to watch be made. It was interesting to learn all the things that were invented in Golden. Good spot to stop by if you are new to Golden or thinking of moving there – you get a sense of the people through the bios of the real people in the community.

If you get the combo ticket it's a total of $5 to also see the Astor House, which is also well worth visiting. It'll take to total of ~2.5-3 hours if you also take a stroll through the Clear Creek History Park which is located between the two. I wish I had known about it being free during special events and about the other TA posting saying you don't have to visit the Astor House + the History Center on the same day. However, they take such a short amount of time I wouldn't want to drive all the way back either, but for those that live closer to the area it's good to know.

We made a point of coming here to see an orange velvet piano (really!) and were pleasantly surprised by the rest of the place. It is a well thought out small museum with excellent displays. Highly recommend.

My kids and I just visited the newly opened exhibits at the golden history center and had a ball!  The kids each got to engrave their own medallion for free using "made in golden" technology.  The exhibits are diverse and richly rooted in real stories about real people from right here in golden.  From famous pioneers of Colorado innovation to bluegrass musicians you can see playing in town today, the museum offers a great big "Howdy folks" style welcome to visitors.  All locals must come as well as tourists from out of town.  (Only one suggestion/question - what is the history of the howdy folks sign?)
