“Beautiful Views!”

You drive up some winding canyon roads then you finallty reach this lookout. You can see four states from this look out and it has a beautiful sunset view!

“Amazing Views”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

The trip to the top was a very scenic, winding road. We did have to watch for bicyclists but not a big deal. The views from the top were incredible and it didn't take too long to drive up. Good place to picnic. Also headed over to Buffalo Bill's gravesite-the museum was packed so we didn't go in. The gift shop was nice and big.

“My Spiritual Home”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Okay, I'm biased. I've ridden my bike up Lookout Mountain-- actually the bottom half of the "Lariat Loop" road is on Mt. Zion-- a couple times a week for 34 years. It's a little less than five miles from "The Arches" at the bottom-- turn west on 19th Street off of 6th Avenue-- to the turn off for Buffalo Bill Cody's grave. The trailhead for the hiking & mountain bike trail to the top can be found just passed The Arches. The views are spectacular, and there are a number of turnouts to take advantage of them. The trailhead at Windy Saddle near the top offers dizzying views of Clear Creek Canyon. At the top, stop for snacks and rubber tomahawks-- and every other tourist souvenir-- at the Pahaska Teepee Gift Shop and tour the Buffalo Bill Museum.

If you're driving, the views are better driving from the top down and you won't get stuck behind slow cyclists-- on the way down, the cyclists and long borders will "blow your doors off." The top can be accessed from the Lookout Mountain turnoff headed westbound on I-70. If you're a bike racer, the world record from The Arches to the Cody grave turnoff is under 16 minutes. Good luck.

At the bottom of the mountain follow 19th Street across 6th Avenue and turn left on Washington Street into downtown Golden for all of its terrific activities and restaurants.

“Beautiful views of Denver and a lovely drive with the family.”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

We visited Lookout Mountain while staying in Denver for a few days. We visited Downtown Golden first, which was a beautiful little town, and then drove up Lookout Mountain Road to the top. The views of Denver and the Rocky Mountains are spectacular. We didn't visit the Buffalo Bill Museum but we did see his grave and visit the gift shop, which has lots of lovely crafts and trinkets. A must see when you are in Denver.

“Good views on the way to better ones”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Lookout Mountain is located very close to nearby Denver, and may suffer for it. There were many bikers and tourists and tour groups heading up and down the mountain on the day we went. A tourist complaining about tourists is a cliche, but some jerk did seriously mistreat one of the port-a-johns at one of the scenic overlooks on the way up. The top does have a nice view of Denver. We did not go into the Buffalo Bill Cody museum, but did view his gravesite (surrounded by a wrought-iron fence of course.) The gift shop is extensive and does have a wide variety of craft items, clothing and typical kitsch as you'd expect. The ice cream shop did make a decent root beer float, though. Colorado has no shortage of tall mountains with great views. I recommend a taller one further off the beaten path.
