I'm a new resident and have been trying to hit all the major sights and have to say that lookout mountain and the Buffalo Bill Museum and gravesite really capture the feeling of how special Denver and Colorado is!

This is a gorgeous drive up a beautiful mountain overlooking Denver & Golden with Buffalo Bill's Gravesite at the top. If you love the outdoors and aren't afraid of heights this is for you!
We passed many cyclists going up & down, saw clear views of the city and wandered around for great photos at the top of the mountain with Buffalo Bill's grave at the top. Good for a short trip on a clear day while visiting Denver~

If you love the great outdoors this mountain offers just about everything! We even passed a man riding a unicycle driving up the mountain. It's easily acessed from town and is a relatively short drive. We saw mountain bikers, road cyclists, remote controlled airplanes, hikers, geoachers, and even paragliders. All over an amazing view of Golden and even Downtown Denver off in the distance. There is a nature center at the top and Buffalo Bill's grave is there too to see. You can also reach these sights from I-70 if your coming from the West.

My sister n law was recently married at Lookout Mountain. Everything was absolutely perfect. From the time we got there for pictures during the meal which was fabulous til the last dance. it was great. The girls that waited the tables were awesome. almost too good like everytime you left your drink (i had water) they would take your glass if it looked like you were done.

Lookout Mountain is about 20 minutes from Denver and is part of the foothills entering the Rocky Mountains. It’s a great place to visit for a half-day attraction and gives you a good taste of Colorado’s outdoors. The top of the mountain is at 7,500 feet and you get a great view of Denver and the Front Range from many overlooks along the edge.

The Lookout Mountain Nature Center (--) is worth stopping at to learn about the flora and fauna of the area. There is an easy hiking trail about 1.25 miles in length from the center. If you’re lucky you may see elk or deer in the nearby meadow. The historic Boettcher Mansion is right next door.

You can also see the Buffalo Bill museum and his grave, and there is a picnic area nearby. The road up from Golden is twisty and a bit steep, and there could be a lot of bicyclists. You can also get up there from Rt. 40 (just off of I-70) to the south. The only drawbacks are the numerous TV and radio antennae on the mountain top as well as numerous electrical lines. Yes, you are close to the city.
