We were referred to The Bayou after inquiring at a local shop where we might find ballroom dancing or karaoke on Saturday night. We stopped in at about six to check it out, and it had somewhat of a sports bar atmosphere with families eating and watching TV. A very friendly server informed us that, beginning at 10:30 pm, the tables would all be moved aside to make room for a dance floor and a DJ would play Latin music till last call at 1:30 a.m. At six o'clock it seemed like a great idea.

Shortly after 10:30 we returned. The front door of the establishment was almost totally blocked by half a dozen men and a couple women loitering outside. Apparently they couldn't decide if they wanted in or out. A security guard checked our IDs and waived us in (no cover charge).
Inside was completely transformed compared to earlier in the evening. Very few tables were left at each side of the room for patrons, and most were empty. It was very poorly lit and the music was absolutely blowing our eardrums out at top decibel. The volume was painful, literally. Shady looking people seemed to lurk back in the dark corners alongside the bar.

We sat at a table having our ears bombarded for several minutes. No one came to take our drink orders. The atmosphere was so creepy and the noise was so unbearable that we just got up and left.

The restaurant was less than half full so this was the first indication to me that there was no need for the terribly slow service. Our food took forever, our waitress (Payge) was non existent, and the items that we ordered did not taste anywhere close to or as good as the same items at other Cajun restaurants. The bread pudding was soggy, the red beans and rice was a floating mixture of sausage and minimal rice and beans. The waitress (Payge) could not multi-task to save her life and spent most of her time chatting with co-workers or customers at the bar. I had to track her down to ask for my check. We will not return to nor suggest this restaurant to anyone. For a family of three we paid over $60 for this experience.

This restaurant used to be a favorite stop for my wife and myself while on vacation, we were in Glenwood Springs on vacation last week and as usual we went to the Bayou restaurant for dinner and to say the least we were under-welmed.

The menu has changed and not in a good way very limited cajun menu items. we ordered crawfish (frozen not Fresh) came out cold and still partially frozen we sent them back so the heated them in the microwave came back like rubber tasted terrible, (sould have paid for drinks and left)

so we ordered the nightly special because the cajun selections sucked ("Fried Chicken") (served raw when we sent this back the waitress said that the cook said it was cooked through, when I get chicken and it leaves a pool of red juice on my plate I wouldn't called it cooked through.

Then the waitress then stated that we were just digruntled because of the new menu had changed, they took one meal off the bill so it came to $20.00 and change so we paid $21.00 and the waitress didn't bother to bring change. we had planned on tipping on the total meal which should have been about a $6.00 dollar tip but I guess the waitress figured the change was an ok tip. DONT EAT HERE GO TO JUICY LUCY'S

Amazing cajun restaurant--with a children's menu, no less. Walking distance from Hotel Colorado on the downtown strip.
