We were referred to The Bayou after inquiring at a local shop where we might find ballroom dancing or karaoke on Saturday night. We stopped in at about six to check it out, and it had somewhat of a sports bar atmosphere with families eating and watching TV. A very friendly server informed us that, beginning at 10:30 pm, the tables would all be moved aside to make room for a dance floor and a DJ would play Latin music till last call at 1:30 a.m. At six o'clock it seemed like a great idea.
Shortly after 10:30 we returned. The front door of the establishment was almost totally blocked by half a dozen men and a couple women loitering outside. Apparently they couldn't decide if they wanted in or out. A security guard checked our IDs and waived us in (no cover charge).
Inside was completely transformed compared to earlier in the evening. Very few tables were left at each side of the room for patrons, and most were empty. It was very poorly lit and the music was absolutely blowing our eardrums out at top decibel. The volume was painful, literally. Shady looking people seemed to lurk back in the dark corners alongside the bar.
We sat at a table having our ears bombarded for several minutes. No one came to take our drink orders. The atmosphere was so creepy and the noise was so unbearable that we just got up and left.
