Residence Inn Glenwood Springs
Ranked #8 of 24 Hotels in Glenwood Springs
Reviewed July 22, 2012

We recently spent the Memorial Day weekend in Glenwood Springs and had originally planned to stay at the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge because of the proximity, but as more and more of my wife's family decided to come we decided to switch to the Residence Inn because of the free breakfast and more home-like amenities (specifically, a kitchen).

We've generally had good luck with Residence Inns in this respect- the free breakfast in particular is a godsend when you're trying to feed a very large group, especially with kids. The breakfast is nothing fancy but it is quite serviceable- eggs, bagels, meats, waffle maker, juice, cereal, oatmeal, pastries etc. The dining area is an extended area of the lobby and is pleasant and spacious. There was coffee available in the lobby for most of the day when we were there. If you decide to not eat here though, there are a few restaurants and a Starbucks in the shopping area about a 5 minute walk away. Walk a little further and there is a Target- very convenient.

The room was very nice and quite modern. Flatscreen TV in each bedroom and another in the living room. No problems with the wifi and the decor is modern and pleasant. The door to the room was rather heavy- good for security I suppose, but if it closes on you (as it did on my wife's foot) it can be a bit unpleasant. I'd definitely keep an eye on little kids if they are present. Hotel lobby staff was pleasant and helpful.

No, it's not right next to the Hot Springs but it really doesn't take that long to drive over there- maybe 10 minutes, depending on traffic.

Now, on to the noise comment- this is not really the fault of the hotel, but because Residence Inns cater more towards families and large groups, if you come during peak stay periods like weekend holidays (as we did) be prepared to have to put up with some background noise. During our stay, there must have been some kind of girls soccer meet or something and there were a good number of soccer families staying for the weekend. Consequently, there were kids running up and down the hall, and lots of soccer moms and dads enjoying themselves with a glass of wine out by the firepit and in the lobby at night. Again, to emphasize- not really the hotel's fault but something to take into account if you're looking for peace and quiet during a popular holiday weekend. I imagine it's a lot more tranquil otherwise, but I can't comment on that- that will have to wait for another visit 8-)

All in all, a good family hotel- but keep in mind that it *is* a family hotel and I think you'll enjoy the Residence Inn.

My family heads out to Glenwood Springs twice a year; in summer and winter. We normally stay at the Hot Springs lodge but we wanted a change, more updated accomodations, and more room for us to spread out...and that's exactly what we got at the Residence Inn.

The suite was perfect for our small family. There was a living room, full kitchen, bedroom, and separate desk area. We recieved an additional AAA discount which made the room quite affordable.

Kids were easily able to nap in a separate bedroom while we made dinner in the room and watched a late afternoon movie.

The hotel is a little drive to the downtown area and the Hot Springs pool. You're allowed to bring a cooler with food and drinks which always makes a trip convenient when travelling with kids.

Recent stay at this location was great. New facility with all the aminities needed. Not downtown but near some good resturants and a short drive to everything else. Great staff, seamed to want to please as many as possible.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the decor and quality of this property. They have a evening reception, with free beer and soft drinks. Great pool w/ jacuzi, & outside fire pit. What looked like a great work out room(just too tired). Finally breakfast included scrambled eggs canadian bacon & potatoes. The usual cereal & yogurt, fresh melon, toast & muffins. Coffee was of good quality as well. Carrie was awesome and found a 1st floor room, since we were wiped out. We even discussed going back for a family vacation since we found out there was lots to do in the area, caves, rafting & more. We had a late dinner at Glenwood Brewerey that was great. Hand crafted micro brews were awesome, made the trying situation much easier, see below.
Thanks goes to Marriot Customer Service. We were held up on Hwy 70 due to a Hazmat spill. We had reservations at a Fairfield much further along our trip back to San Diego. After sitting on the road stopped 3 hours I called Marriot and explained, even though we were past the cancellation time, they found us a this hotel and cancelled the other with no penalty and I received an affordable rate for the new even, though it was last minute. So being a member really paid off. I usually book rooms through other web-sites.

This one of he newer properties in Gleenwood Springs CO. We stayed at the Residence (the Courtyard is next doors) since we like a full kitchen when vacationing. Ours was a studio suite. Excellent room, very comfortable, stylish. Room electronics were excellent and includes free Wifi.

Big pluses include a tremendously generous fee breakfast each day in a very comfortable meeting area as well as free grilled burgers/hot dogs Tues thru Thrs evenings. The breakfast was more like a changing buffet and included scrambled eggs, sausage patties, biscuits and gravey, hash browns, cereals, yogurt, an assortment of fruits, waffles with strawberies and blueberries, three juices, and of course gourmet coffee. With a large party, the free food can really add up to some great savings.

Staff were excellent. The guy doing the burgers was tremendous. He'd be grilling up the most delicious burgers while simultaneously assisting room guests and he didn't lose his cool once. He reminds me of what 'service' once was though I think in this case he went far beyond what I'd expect. Again, great employees here.

The only negative was location since its about 1-1.5 miles from the main tourist street. Not a problem if you have a car (we rode the train in). However the bike path between the Residence and town made for a very pleasant walk especially after our glutinous free breakfast each morning. And, the resort was located near a new shopping center with a Natural Foods store, Target, and some good quality chain restaurants. Also, the pool/gym areas were acceptable and very clean though somewhat meager. Only 2 trademills , a stair stepper, and a good collection of free weights. But after checking around I noticed that no other properties actually had good gyms anyway. And besides, the Gleenwood community center was just next door.

In summary, a great bargain. You wont be disappointed.

Just completed a two night stay and was not happy. Housekeeping knocked on our door and I told her to come back in ten minutes. When we returned at the end of the day our room was not cleaned at all. I called the front desk and asked to have our room serviced and was told housekeeping had left for the day. It was 4:30 in the afternoon. I then asked for clean towels and was told sure come pick them up at the front desk. When I went to the front desk I asked for a shampoo and conditioner and was told they ran out. The front desk person told me to talk to management in the morning. I told management in the morning what happened and was told they would talk to housekeeping. Both the front desk clerk and day manager seemed indifferent to what I told them. This service is not what I expect from the Marriott brand.

Very clean and well appointed rooms with all the good stuff thrown in. Great pool and fitness area along with a wonderful fire pit to enjoy a cold or warm beverage in the evenings.

I am not sure if this place is a good value as the rates are fairly high--the parking lot was full so maybe they were incredibly busy.

I would not hesitate to stay here if I was looking for the fullest of full service night away from home.

Beautiful hotel.

Room Tip: First floor is in the middle of everything and fairly quiet.
