“Tired but Fun”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

Our family has stayed at this hotel for the past 43 summers. It is a great location if you are into relaxing in the natural hot springs or taking advantage of all the wonderful things this part of the state has to offer. The hotel is bursting with charm and history and will take you back years to a time long gone. A person can spend days reading captions on the pictures that cover the walls in the lobby and floor where the rooms are located. The things that add the charm are the same things that detract from the hotel. There is no air conditioning and West facing rooms can seem like a boilerroom. The furniture is all period items and this extends to the bathrooms which leave much to be desired. For what you pay one would expect more comfort and amenities.

Room Tip: Book rooms on the lower levels that face East.

We had a few meals, and some drinks here, and absolutely loved it. The gardens a lovely comfortable and relaxing. My daughter liked to play the piano and they are happy with this. It is friendly and very cosy. Next time I think I will stay here.

Pluses: lovely lobby with lots of lounge space, very nice outdoor dining and bar area -- perfect for evening drinks, great staff, clean room, comfortable beds and terrific location for the pool and downtown shops.

Minuses: tiny bath, no air conditioning (our west-facing room was quite warm by bedtime), highway noise because of the open windows and a color scheme that may be historic, but is also a bit drab.

We were told this is a must stay hotel & I agree! The hotel is beautiful & the location was awe inspiring!! The hot springs are right across the street & if you are in the area, you have to do the hot springs.
The only issues I had were with the rooms amenities. The worst was NO AIR-CONDITIONING! & even though the nights were cool, our room was pretty warm. We slept with the windows open, but then there was someone out weed eating very early & the traffic noise was loud as well. Also little comforts were missing. No coffee pot, no end tables next to the chair or couch. Also no desk or a sitting area to put on makeup, I had to sit on the side of my bed because the bathroom plug didn't work for my hair dryer. Our phone also didn't work & when I told the person at the front desk she said ok & that was it, they never came to fix it, so we had to make several trips up & down the stairs when we needed anything. I'm glad we stayed because of the beautiful grounds, but be prepared to not have modern amenities. Also for a day trip, you must drive through the canyon. & stop @ all of the rest areas. Very interesting to read about the building of the interstate going through the area.

The hotel is charming, with beautiful old stone, wonderful courtyard, wide halls. We had a huge suite with a balcony on the 4th floor. The rooms though are very old and outdated. The bathroom was tiny.. It is also very noisy with no AC. You can walk to the hot springs which is nice. The food was good, staff very nice and accommodating.

Room Tip: Get a room that faces the back street.

The ambiance and character of the hotel drew us in at the first glance. Rooms were spacious and well decorated for the period. Bathroom large and well lit. It was very hot when we were there and no a/c but many fans which helped. Do not try and eat here, service slow and disorganized, waited quite awhile and then left and found another place to eat. Over-all a fun experience!

We recently stayed at the Hotel Colorado and had a great experience. The hotel is charming and full of history, located in a great area of a desirable tourist destination. A fan in the window helped a lot with the lack of A/C and didn't bother us at all. In addition to a great property, we were very impressed with the relatively new Food and Beverage Manager, Paul. We had the privilege of talking to him while he was filling in at the bar on the 4th of July, and he made the difference between a pleasant stay at one of our favorite hotels and a truly memorable one. Even though he was obviously busy, he made time to talk to us and gave special recognition when it came out in conversation that we were military members. We look forward to our next stay especially to enjoy the restaurants and bars under his leadership.
