“Nostalgic but not kept up.”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

I was driving with family across the state for a business meeting and wanted to find a cool place to stay. We thought the Hotel Colorado would be a change of pace from a chain hotel. On the plus side, if you are going swimming in the hot springs, you can't fina a better location - it is the closest hotel and its across the street. The Hot Springs are not affiliated so you still have to pay the $15 fee to swim. The Hotel was once the hangout for the rich and famous and it is cool to look at the pictures and see the nostalgia and history. That is pretty cool. The hotel is also located close to places to eat and you can walk to the downtown area which is convenient. WiFi and parking are free and the rate was pretty reasonable (around $120 per night). The service was friendly and efficient.

On the downside, it is disheartening to see such a formerly great hotel fall into disrepair. The rooms are small - it looks like they tried to retrofit everything so the bathrooms were probably old closets. You can see the plumbing and electricity. Our table was about to fal apart and the porcelain toothbrush holder by the sink was broken in half. The carpet was a bit threadbare and you could pretty much hear everything outside and in the hallway.

The bed was comfortable and I was able to sleep at night, though and that was the prime issue.

I am glad I stayed there once - it was worth it for the history. I probably won't stay there again, though.

The place is a great historic place. The rooms lack character of any sort tho. The housekeeping service was not too good. Never had everything any of the three days we were there. Had to ask front desk for towels, washcloths (which were of the Super 8 variety BTW) and shampoo every day. No table surfaces were ever wiped and the hotel seemed not to find picking up dirty dishes or emptying trash cans of any value. Go for 1 night simply for the experience of a historic hotel but do not expect exceptional anything.

We are still in the middle of our stay at the Hotel Colorado and we could not be more pleased. The hotel itself is unbelievable, so beautiful and historic. We really loved looking at all the photos and artifacts around the place. We arrived a few hours early, and did not expect to do so, so we had not informed them prior to our arrival. We went to the front desk and Kim helped us out. I told her we didn't expect to arrive so early and if there had a room for us to rest in. She checked her computer and sure enough, they had a room they could get us in that was pet friendly and exactly what we had wanted.

The room itself was very nice. It's a old, historic hotel so the rooms are smaller, but the charm they have outweighs the tightness of the room. We also had two people and a dog in one room, that may be part of the issue! The room was very clean, the best was awesome. Very comfortable and everything was cleaned.

The walk to the Hot Springs takes about five minutes and it really something everyone should check out if they visit. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who visits Glenwood. It's beautiful and charming, with a lot of history and great service.

Asked for early check in and front desk told us room wasn't ready when in fact it was an they refused to let us check in. I asked him to call our cell if room was ready early and he said he would. But he never asked for our cell which tells me he had no intention on calling us. He needs to retire and let someone with customer service skills work the front desk.

We knew that there was no air conditioning, but we were fine with leaving windows open. However, they gave us a room that happened to be directly over the main entrance, and there was a wedding party that evening. So naturally during the late evening and well into the early morning there was a lot of loud talking that kept us awake. There were tons of empty rooms in the hotel, but they gave us this noisy one. We complained to the manager when we got back home and the response was one of not caring. Also, the water pressure was poor and you had to let it run for 5 minutes to let it warm up. The historical ambiance was nice but the management does not care about the customers.

Our apologies for a night that was far from exceptional, typically when a guest has issues and asks to be moved to another room we have no problem accomodating please give me a call so we can discuss how your call went with management and how it could have gone been better

If you love history you will LOVE this hotel! Nestled in Glenwood Springs you will travel back in time and share the likes of Teddy Rosevelt, Molly Brown, and many historical/political persons. The rooms are well appointed and you will be treated like royalty! Attention has been paid in restorations to preserve the historical accuracy and surround you in a wealth of interesting historical pictures and memorabilia. Walking distance to everything that is Glenwood Springs this is a treat not to be missed!

Room Tip: Ask for the tower rooms and you will be amazed!

I attended a 3-day conference at the Hotel Colorado that exceeded expectations. The hotel, built in 1893, has a long and colorful history recorded with historic photographs of numerous presidents and other celebrities' visits through the years. Sprinkler system plumbing is visible in the hallways and rooms (installed by the US Navy in WWII) but I slept better because of it. You should now there is no A/C in the hotel due to its age, but it's not a second thought except for the heat of the summer. The beds are plush, bathrooms well appointed and the room had a large LCD TV. The food was excellent for every meal we had, the staff accommodating and professional. The Hot Springs pool is right across the street and downtown Glenwood a 2-minute walk. Ask for the historical hotel tour offered several times a week. This is a can't-miss stop in Glenwood Springs, whether you stay the night or just stroll through the building.

Room Tip: Rooms 314 and 315 are large corner rooms with 2 windows - nice ventilation for hot weather.
