I had forewarned my girlfriend about how beautiful the Glenwood Springs area was, and how the trail was of equal if not better beauty. By the time we arrived on the train, she was ecstatic, and I was too. The canyon and trail were amazingly pretty.
Walking across the pedestrian bridge after we de-trained, our bikes were waiting for us at appropriately named Canyon Bikes. After a last minute itinerary change in our plans, I scrambled to find a place to ship them, after a phone call and very helpful service Canyon Bikes came through in flying colors.
We hit the trail the next morning, and just rode to Grizzly Flat and back. Still, the river was great to look at and admire. Just be careful of the numerous other trail users, all types of cyclists use this.
The next day we rode up to Grizzly Flat again. Then after taking a brief rest, making aleft turn we rode up the Grizzly Creek trail.
What a pleasure, though not a suitable trail for beginners, it sure was an excellent refresher course for my bike handling skills. A few small drop-offs, exquisite Rocky Mtn. chunks of various granite and such challenged my skills, we had fun!
After going uphill for around 45 minutes, we did a U-turn and slowly made our way back to the pavement and Glenwood Springs on the Canyon Trail. The pavement seemed bore-ish and a waste of time after the great trail ride we had just completed. Still worth it though, but be forewarned that the trail can be closed to weather conditions.
