Owner description: The Georgetown Loop Railroad was one of Colorado’s first visitor attractions. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. This is a ride to remember! The beauty of the rugged Rocky Mountains surrounds you as our old-time steam locomotive or one of our powerful diesel locomotives winds up the Clear Creek canyon. Pass by remains of gold and silver mines and breathtaking views along the line, in fully enclosed and open cars. Great family fun for kids of all ages.

We stopped on the way back to Denver. Nice little operation. Good photo opportunity. Friendly train and station staff. Good explanations of local history. It gets quite chilly even in the summer when it drizzleFleece and a windbreaker recommended.

This was our third trip on the historic Georgetown Loop Train. This time we took my niece and her three children. They had never been on a train and loved every minute of the trip. Beautiful scenery from all the cars and just a fun trip for all ages.

Even if you are not a train buff, this is still a great ride, from Georgetown to Silver Plume or vice versa. We included a mine tour. The scenery is magnificent, you cross a number of streams and rapids. Our engine was steam powered and full of character, with the bell and whistles, smoke and usual sounds and smells associated with a steam engine. Staff were dressed in period costume.

The train has inside and outside carriages, but seats are not reserved. You can walk, however, between the different carriages, apart form the Parlour coach, but you cannot book that with the mine tour. They do like you to stay in your carriage, but we walked around. We were worried about the threat of rain, but being able to move between open and covered carriages meant this was not a problem.

Not sure whether the trips are all steam.

I got so many good pictures on this trip; my wife and I were very glad that we took it. We did the extended mine tour which was a lot of fun as well. The staff was friendly which made the trip even more fun. Well worth the money.

The train ride was relaxing and educational. Everyone is very friendly and answers questions to the best of their knowledge. There is a professional photographer that takes your picture as you are getting on the train and then you have the option to purchase it before your ride is over. The country is beautiful to see from the train.
