Owner description: The Georgetown Loop Railroad was one of Colorado’s first visitor attractions. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. This is a ride to remember! The beauty of the rugged Rocky Mountains surrounds you as our old-time steam locomotive or one of our powerful diesel locomotives winds up the Clear Creek canyon. Pass by remains of gold and silver mines and breathtaking views along the line, in fully enclosed and open cars. Great family fun for kids of all ages.

This was a fun tourist attraction, however the train ride seemed a little rushed. Still worth the money and they have good tour guides.

We did the Wine Tasting Hors D'oeurves train. It only cost $40 per person and their were 4 of us sharing a table. It was a fun trip. We started at the Silver Plume Station. Go to the bathroom their before getting on the train. Before boarding the train, they sell wine and other drinks off of the platform, it is not included and is an additional cost. They also take your picture as you board the train, they process and package the photo into an 8x10 with two key chains for $20. The train only moved about 5 miles per hour but the scenery was beautiful with the leaves changing. We had four different glasses of wine paired with four appetizers as the train goes along. They would stop at scenic spots to introduce each new wine. They will also sell other beverages on the train as well. The train stopped at the Devil's gate station. This was the only opportunity to use a bathroom once aboard the train. We bought our tickets online well in advance and they placed us at a table for 4. This was a great no-kid adult trip.

We have some friends in town and thought they would enjoy the train ride and mine tour. I expected both to be worthwhile, and I was not disappointed.

The train ride is interesting. It is a narrow-guage railroad that climbs 600 feet over the course of two miles. The views are generally good, though a good part of what you see on one side is Interstate 70. My only complaint about the train ride was the long wait in the ticket line, even for those of us who had already purchased our seats online.

The mine tour--of a silver mine closed in 1896--is also interesting. You will learn a lot about mining and especially about the miners' lives and work. One warning is in order, however: if you are a bit claustrophobic or if it bothers you being dripped on at times from the ceiling of a cave, this tour is not for you. A final word about the guides/interpreters: they provide a lot of good information, but at times their forced and self-referential humor grates on listeners.

The ride up the mountain was good fun. There where some covered cars and open cars so you can choose what is better for you. There is also first class tickets with tables and drinks. The mine tour was the best. Melissa our guide was very informative and did an awesome job at telling the story. Enjoy this mountain train ride, It is a must do

The ride through the mountains is delightful - but be sure to do the mine tour to get a sense of just how hard life was for those who brought silver and gold out of the hills. You'll realize your boss and work conditions aren't so bad when compared to the miners.
