The Lord Nelson (AKA "The Nellie") is a throwback to how pubs used to be, no nonsense, no kids not even any food! Just good beer at a good price.
I suppose the only concessions they have made to the modern era is the showing of football on the many screens and the Saturday night disco.
The atmosphere is pleasant, never any nastiness or trouble, sometimes a little sedate but if what you are looking for is an old fashioned English pub and a good drink, this is the place for you. By the way Holts's Bitter is legendary - get it down you, tastes like nectar.

The Lord Nelson is an old-fashioned wet-led pub serving extraordinarily cheap beer from the local Holts brewery. Unusually, it is busy on most nights of the week, with entertainment provided on several, variously in the forms of a Tuesday quiz night, Saturday disco in the large rear bar area and occasional karaoke. Numerous large screen TVs also show sporting events, though they are not intrusive due to the pub's high ceilings. When we visited on a Tuesday the bar staff were friendly and efficient and there was some quiz night banter with the locals. A thoroughly enjoyable place to spend a couple of hours.
