Although we've toured the museum before. this time we were escorted by the caretaker. He had a great knowledge of each car and whared that knowledge with us.

“a long drive, but fun even if you are not a car buff”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

The cars are nice, but it was the historical timeline of automobiles in the U.S. that was most interesting. You are taken from a Model A through muscle cars and everything in between while given an interactive account of how each fits into history. There is nothing else to do in Gateway but the drive is great

Go in the summer, the road can be dangerous in the winter.

“Antique Cars”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Gateway, Colorado is not on a main thoroughfare so difficult to get to, but worth the extra time to get there. Mr. Hendricks, founder of Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and others, built this high end luxury resort in the middle of nowhere and included this wonderful car museum. He is apparently quite the car buff and has accumulated about 50 antique or unique one of a kind autos dating from the 1900's to 1950's. Some highlights are a Cord, Duesenberg, couple of Pierce Arrows and number of Cadilacs, all in beautiful condition. The museum is still new and not all cars are fully described. Cost is $10 per person and I thought a good value.

The drive to Gateway is beautiful, with the canyons and red rocks. Then you arrive at Gateway Canyons Resort, which is a spectacular development in the middle of ... well, nowhere. John Hendricks, the owner of the resort and Museum and founder of The Discovery Channel, opened the Auto Museum about seven years ago and it is not to be missed.
Around 50 cars, restored to pristine condition (actually, two cars have NOT been restored...try to figure out which two...lol) shine under special lighting designed to maximize the beauty of these autos.
From a 1906 Cadillac to a 2006 Foose Mustang, your mind and eyes can barely take it all in. Check out the one-of-a-kind Olds 88 in its own gallery. See the 16-minute video narrated by the legendary Walter Cronkite, on the history of the cars and the museum. Then try to choose your favorite car ... mine was the1932 Auburn Speedster (it just screamed Carole Lombard and William Powell :)
The facility has food for purchase seasonally, a lovely little gift shop, and it is wheelchair accessible.
Mechanic Tom Sylvester, a very nice young man, was hosting the day we were there, and he answered every one of our questions.
The Gateway Colorado Automobile Museum is really worth your time.
