We've done a lot of walk-abouts through this park over the year and during different seasons. It never stops amazing us. I'm not sure how many eco-zones this place has, but I know the staff in the visitor's centre can tell you. Bring binos for bird watching and try to go during the week to avoid the crowds. Don't forget the hat and water bottle.

Took the kids to visit the park and hike. The place was just as amazing on the inside as it looks from the road, a beautiful canyon stuck in the middle of the prairie. It had something for everyone. Lots of different hikes with varying lengths, challenges, and scenery. A modern visitor center with clean bathrooms.

I just wish it offered camping, but that's a small sacrifice to preserve the beauty and natural wonder this place offers. Go today!

This park is a jewel within reach of very populated areas. Has the feel of a much more remote mountain environment, good trails for most hikers, lovely photo ops, and a serene place to visit to get centered. Perfect picnic spot without driving for hours and dealing with traffic. Summer hiking down to the creek for some water play at the base of the canyon is a great family adventure.

I've been a visitor to this State Park a handful of times, including once for a wedding. Easy drive up from Colorado Springs. I've climbed and have seen climbers in here, but I can't remember if permits are required. $7 entry fee, day use only, leashed dogs allowed on most trails, bicycles restricted to certain areas.

Very family-friendly as most of the trails are rated easy to moderate, and in most places you can avoid super-exposed areas if you don't like heights. Very fascinating set of ecosystems thrive as the Park is in a transitional zone, making it a haven for a wide variety of avian and plant life. There are also some historical ruins you can walk to. The creek and falls provide peaceful background noise. Many lengths of the trails are not shaded by trees, so be sure to bring a hat and water on hot, sunny days.

My recent visit saw snow on the ground. Ice covered parts of the creek. Although we're used to more strenuous, vigorous hikes, Castlewood was a pleasant chance for us to get away yet be close to town. My only beef is that the Visitor's Center is rather small.

Everything is well-maintained, including the paved parking lots. There is an outdoor amphitheater (seats 120) with pretty, unbroken views towards Pikes Peak along with large pavilions and grills for big groups, which are reservable. Picnic tables are scattered around the parking areas.

Located just south of the Town of Parker and you will find a nice nature get away from the suburbs. Castlewood Canyon offers different levels of trails to hike, and even a historical path to once where a dam was. If you don't have a season pass, you just pay $7.00 a day/per vehicle. Perfect for all types, couples, family with young and teens, retired, solo and dog-friendly too. We went the end of November 2013, and the trails (some had a bit of snow and ice) are still easy to walk through. Bring layers- Colorado is known for that!
