We stayed at the Fort Collins Homewood Suites for 2 nights (March 3-4, 2017, room 419). While this is a nicely maintained property with comfortable rooms, our experience with the breakfast service was a deal breaker.
Breakfast is served from 7:00 AM-10:00 AM on Saturday/Sunday, the two mornings we were at the Homewood Suites. Saturday went off without a hitch. Sunday was a total disappointment.
I’m an early riser, and arrived just before 7:00 AM for coffee and the breakfast buffet. There was a small crowd in the dining room, waiting for 7:00. There was no food yet in the buffet. The lights were off and the room was dark. The staff was in the kitchen, presumably preparing the buffet. After about a 10 minute, wait, they opened the buffet. The small crowd converged on the food, and within minutes, many of the breakfast items were gone. I had to wait for the staff to restock the buffet before getting a banana.
Opening 10 minutes late is aggravating, especially for those travelers trying to get on the road. However, it’s not the end of the story. My wife and I returned to the buffet (she hadn’t eaten) at 9:30 AM. There was a full half hour of breakfast service left on the schedule but the staff had stopped stocking the buffer.
I needed creamer for a cup of coffee. There was none. No powdered creamer. No plastic cups of creamer. Nothing in the “half & half” pitcher. I took the empty pitcher to the kitchen door, where I had a full view of the two staff members working in the kitchen. They also had a clear view of me standing there, coffee cup in one hand, pitcher in the other. I’m certain they saw me standing there. I waited at the door for a full 5 minutes, and was never acknowledged in any way. No “be right with you.” No “can I help you?” Nothing.
I finally gave up. I never got that cup of coffee. It was clear that they were intentionally ignoring me.
It is insulting to be ignored. I will not be insulted or ignored. My advice to management is this: if you ignore your customers, they will go away. You won’t get a second chance to ignore me.
