Coyote Ridge Natural Area
Reviewed July 22, 2013

The area has a nice trail system for hiking, running, or mountain biking. The climb up to the ridge is a good workout. Prarie dogs are easily viewed as well as rabbits. Good place for a workout or leisurely walk.

This is a good access to the Blue Sky Trail if you are coming from S.W. Fort Collins or N.W. Loveland. Starts with a quick grind up a gravel path, then turns into technical singletrack for the last mile or so before hooking up with Blue Sky. Singletrack is generally intermediate level, however, there is one expert-level rock feature.

Must be able bodied, but not difficult. Gradual grade increases. Rocky path. Carry water, a snack, and layers for weather changes. Hiking shoes are recommended over tennis shoes. Watch and listen for bicyclists and rattlers!

There are many choices for hiking in this area. You can go for a long or short hike. It can be very hot or very cold there depending on the day. Be sure to carry food and water and extra clothing.

Really enjoyed this hike. We did the Roosevelt Natl Park area 1st and it was strange to see how the fire from over 10 yrs still effected it. We stopped in the Mahoney Park area for lunch and then came out the other side which was hilly and full of trees. Seemed like we had hiked 3 different places all in one day. Lots more to explore there.
