“Good place for drinks”
Reviewed October 21, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

I have been to Astoria twice, and it's definitely one of our favorite places to go out for drinks in Fort Collins these days. I like it because it's an older crowd than many of the other places in Old Town. It's definitely a diverse crowd, but generally friendly and casual. Service there has been fine, and the bartenders are friendly. It gets crowded on a weekend night, but I never felt like I had to wait too long for service. They have a full bar and a few beers on tap. I've only had a little bit of the food, but it was better than standard bar fare.

We are having a hard time thinking of a worse place we have been to in Fort Collins. Atmosphere was dank, food had small portions, and although not terrible, the 8 different dishes we tried were very similar and nondescript. Waitress nice but completely inappropriate in her dress.

“Nice as a bar, but not so great a restaurant”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

The Astoria only opened it's doors last year and they seem to advertise as a nice cuban restaurant/bar. At first we thought this place was pretty good based on the good service and the traditional cuban menu and fun drink choices. When the food started coming out was when the problems began. They used weird ground beef for their cuban "chili" fries which in a real cuban restaurant would be made with more of a pulled meat than a ground meat and it tasted like canned chili, not cuban. Several of us ordered cubans, you know the staple sandwich of any cuban place, which on the menu was described just as a traditional cuban would be made. Well when we got our sandwiches we found that they put tomatoes and onions on them, something the menu neglected to tell us. So many of us sent the sandwiches back and then when they brought out the "new" sandwiches it seemed as though they had simply scraped off the tomatoes and onions because their was red stuff in the sandwich still. We asked the waitress what that was and she informed us that it was picante sauce, a rather spicy one at that, another thing the menu neglected to mention. So once again the sandwiches were sent back to change them to what a true cuban should be. Once the "true" cuban came back out they forgot to put swiss on half my sandwich, there was so little mustard you couldn't even tell it was in there, and they forgot the ham on half my sandwich! Other people in our party had the same issue with theirs. Others in our party had ordered different things and no one was overly impressed with the food they had received. Overall it was a pretty bad experience. We may go back one day to just hang out at the bar or play pool, but we'll never venture there for food ever again. Had most of us not been from FL or other states where authentic Cuban food is easy to find we may have liked it more, but we had expectations for at least close to good Cuban food and they have not done well trying to achieve that at all.
