As a member of the City of Fort Collins Parks and Rec Citizens' Advisory Board, I get to attend a meeting a tour of the Gardens every year. I also attend the annual Bike n' Jazz event at the Gardens to enjoy the music and check out what's new. The Gardens have only been open a few years and continue to grow and develop. One of the more recent additions is the rock garden which attracts an ever increasing number of interested gardeners (no we don't "grow" rocks there). There is an amazing chidrens' garden, sustainable exhibit garden, outdoor kitchen, and a garden producing foods in the summer for the food bank. There is a community garden as well and a natural areas section, too. Community meeting room, you bet. Check it out.

Our visit was in the fall, and the weather was perfect. The gardens made you feel like you were far from the city, enjoying the country life, and the relaxing atmosphere. The Gardens is more than a community garden. They teach classes in gardening, cooking, and preserving foods, host volunteer opportunities, as well as private parties. It would be a shame if you missed out on this gem.

This garden is a work in progress, but the kids area appears to be mostly complete. My youngsters enjoyed the water feature, and the opportunity to water some of the vegetation. They especially liked the pond area, and petting the fish. The other areas of the garden appear to still in under development, but it has the makings for a very nice local botantical garden.
