I've bought tamales from Dorothy's two Hartsel, CO locations since she first opened her doors. Small with good flavor but unfortunately she still mixes an emulsified filler with the shredded meat. Apparently her move from Hartsel to Fairplay didn't make any difference in her tamales. Better than canned but not nearly as good as they could/should be. Her advantage is she has a captive customer base in this sparsely populated area of Colorado. Bowling alley restaurant. $7.50 for six pork tamales.

Wow! We had the best pork green chili EVER at this place. They were out of the "meat" tamales, so we had the cheese. Also had a shredded beef burrito, smothered in pork green chili. There was so much beef in it I almost couldn't finish it. Great little place!

Also, it's part of a bowling alley if you have the time.......

A real find (but hard to find) in a local Fairplay a bit south of town on Hwy 285S/ US 24 bowling alley. Dorothy's very handsome grandson seemed overwhelmed by all of the business (he was taking and delivering orders as well as fetching dozens of frozen tamales for customers) but the tamales were great, and the setting very kitschy... the today thankfully-quiet bowling alley with Jetson-inspired carpeting was packed with happy customers. Don't miss this rare treat in the middle of nowhere!

Don't even think about going some where else. So you say, "But I don't like Tamales", well your wrong. OK the secret is to get them with one of the many sauces they offer. My fav was the Buffalo with the special red buffalo sauce and the pork, with the green chilli smothered. Tamales without a great sauce is like spaghetti without marinara."Forgettaboutit" The sauces are rich and spicy with great texture. I can admit that I ate here two times in the two days I was in Fairplay and I licked every drop out of the carton they came in, like a starving puppy.
