Every once in a while you step into a space that puts a smile on your face and the food comes close to doing the same? Just a little attention to detail would put this quaint local eatery over the top.
Located behind the Safeway at Arapahoe and Quebec in Centenial, this small bistro Pesce Fresco delivers a big bistro gastronomic effort to please their diners who become their friends for a few short hours. The bar/open patio layout is unique and inviting. The dining room is comfortable and seats a surprisingly sizable eclectic group of diners.
We started our journey with a 50% off coupon for any bottle of wine under $100. Found a lovely Jordan '08 Cab that netted us 50 smackers ,less than the retail price! The mussels were tangy but a little too lemony for most at the table. The Gorgonzola cheesecake appie which is our personal fav was a little overcooked and became mealy but typically reaches "to die for" status with its carmelized balsamic onions. Caesar salads were good and of course would not be a CS without anchovies which were available.
Main courses of Zuppa di Pesce ($21) was filled with ample fresh shrimp, fish, and mussels. It too was a bit too tangy with lemon so I had them add some parmigiana . The pan roasted trout which was so good that I was offered not a taste. The pan seared scallops were well prepared, tasted great and were nicely presented. The fresh fish of the day was also nicely done.
We passed on dessert. Overall a nice dining experience but could have been much better had a little bit more attention to detail from the kitchen been paid. There are few restaurants this size, this potential quality, and this price point around especially in the burbs. It's worth a try even with a few flaws. P.S. The reasonable portion sizes are commendable, keeps prices reasonable, and makes for healthier dining. Bravo Pesce Fresco.
