“Pretentious Pretender”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Went here after asking some local cattlemen where to get a good steak in S. Denver. Was thoroughly dissapointed. To begin with I will say the ambiance is very nice and we did not have to wait more than a few minutes for a table, as we had reservations for 10+. I am very familiar with meats and meat quality. Ordered the ribeye medium rare and a house salad with Ranch. The salad ($5) was crisp, had good flavor. My only complaint was that it was pre-dressed and had barely a tblsp of dressing. The ribeye arrived and looked good. The first bite was only warm. A good steak of this price $28 should be sizzling. Half of it was cooked correctly, the other half was medium rare. It contained way too much gristle and the fat had an off flavor. The best part of the meal was the mashed potatoes. For a $40 meal I was severely dissapointed. I think I could have gotten a better steak at Outback or Texas Roadhouse for 1/3 the price. The waiter never bothered to come by and ask how the meal was. No one in our party was particularly impressed with the place although I dont think they had quite the negative experience I did. The first bite of the carrot cake was excellent, after that it was not quite as impressive but still good, very rich and moist.

“Great place for lunch or a casual dinner”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We have visited this restaurant many times over the last few years and have always been well satisfied with the food and service. While it may have a chain restaurant appearance, the food is way above average and it is obvious that the chef makes an effort to prepare quality food with interesting combinations and an appetizing appearance. Their wine selections are also great and the staff is well versed in both the menu and wine list. We have tried a wide range of their offerings - from gourmet burgers to fresh seafood and it's all been very good.

“Good food, good service”

We walked in without reservation and were promptly seated and served. The prime rib was excellent as was the mash potatoes and the seared tuna was good as well. The service was very good.

“Good food for a decent price”

Love the steaks at J Alexander's; however, each time we go, their medium is different. Either too pink, or too done, so it has to go back, or we eat it if it's too done. The potatoes are a great addition, and their house salad is a favorite of mine.
