Eldorado Canyon State Park

Were in Boulder with a family of five (9 year old girl, 12 year old boy, 21 year old girl, and parents) in late August and it was hot. Decided not to walk in the open sun on the Mesa trails and instead head for some tree cover in Eldorado Canyon (inner canyon). We pulled over in the first parking lot past the parking for the pool on the park road. The kids loved scrambling on the rocks along the river, dipping in and out of the pools, and watching the rock climbers. We then headed back to the pool at the end of the day. Expensive but worth it. The classic rock tunes over the speakers added to the fun.

Liked Eldorado Canyon so much we came back the next day and drove all the way to the end of the park road to the Ranger station. Hiked the Rattle Snake Gulch trail which was challenging for the 9 year old but good views. On the way out pulled over on the park road half way down and dipped into the many pools. Fun!

Watching the rock climbers can be exciting, and there are several nice hikes , not the easiest trails but fun.

Stunning rock walls. Rushing creek. Jaw dropping-ly beautiful. I feel guilty listing this on Trip Advisor because the last thing we want is others to go there.

It is around Boulder, but you don't need your passport to enter. I have taken my kids even without hats, teva's, sun screen or mineral water and we hade a great time! We did have trail mix.. That helped with the natives...

Easy access to this beautiful canyon tucked away near the Flatirons. Huge granite walls make this a climbers paradise. The river is beautiful and serene. Good place for a picnic or hiking. Several trails to choose from to extreme elevation climb to gradual change.
