“Classic Hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2010

We were looking for an adventure and found it at the Strater. You feel like you can step back in time when you enter the lobby. Carved wood and classic details for a time gone by. The beds were very comfortable and rooms are clean and charming. We loved the touch of the diary that the hotel provided to leave your mark on this historic hotel. The Office is a great place to go and have a few drinks. We enjoyed the friendly staff and complimenry breakfast, especially the quiche and pisole.

Great hotel if you want an old fashioned antiquey kind of place, which we did. We were in the newer addition but it still had the old time look & feel. Breakfast buffet was much better than your average chain hotels. Location is right in the center of the historic area.

We stayed at the Strater in 2009 for our anniversary, based on friends' recommendations. We loved our stay. The staff was so courteous, the room was gorgeous, dinner at the Mahogany Grill was exquisite, the location is perfect and the entire hotel has such charm! Room 233 was huge and gorgeous. It felt like a museum.

We decided to return for our 2010 anniversary and it was as wonderful as we remembered. We stayed in 332, which was didn't have the sitting area, but was still beautiful. We loved lying in bed, looking at the beautiful ceiling and wooden molding. We had another unforgettable meal at the Mahogany Grill (Brian was a great server), a wonderful brunch at the Golden Belle Saloon, and again, the most courteous service from the entire staff.

We cannot wait to return. We're happy to have this as our anniversary tradition.

This place was really nice, the beds were comfortable, and the room was clean. The front desk staff was very helpful as well. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a cool place to stay!. It's like returning to the wild west of the late 1800s and staying in the best hotel in town (with 2010 amenities of course). Everything about this hotel is charming--saloon with servers in appropriate costumes, happy hour bar, entryway, even the rooms with very nice antiques. It was fun just to hang out in the hotel.

We stayed in a standard room, which is a bit small. The bed is a full size bed, which is small. The room has period antiques and decor. The TV is maybe a 27 inch flatscreen and there are two sitting chairs and a table. Lots of counter space in the bathroom.

Continental breakfast is good, mostly the basics--cereals, juices, fruits, breads. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is maybe two blocks from the historic train station and there are lots of good restaurants within a few blocks.

The Office Spiritorium is part of The Strater Hotel, along with the Mahogany Grill, Diamond Belle Salon, and Henry Starter Theater. But, if my visit at The Office is any indication of a stay at The Strater, I am glad I had other accommodations.

My husband and I were intrigued by the ambiance and the nice happy hour offerings, but don’t judge the book by it’s cover. It was just at the beginning of happy hour and there were people at 3 tables and we made four. We ordered a drink and an appetizer. I asked if they had pretzels to munch on until our food arrived. I was told they did not, but that their sister bar next door did and if I went over there they would probably give me a basket, which I did not do. 30-minutes later I asked about our order and was told the kitchen was a little behind. About 5-minutes later the order arrived, stone cold! I asked for the wine tab and to not be charged for the cold food. When the server brought the tab he again blamed the kitchen for the cold food. In my opinion if the food is delayed and comes out hot, it is the kitchen. If the food is delayed and comes out cold, it is the server.
Too bad this wasn’t a better experience.
