We stayed here as part of a package offered for the Durango to Silverton train tour, we agreed to the package mainly because they offered a Hilton property which we prefer as we are devote Hilton Hhonors members as well as Hilton Property owners, this hotel has it all in one place very clean rooms, devoted staff and a restaurant, lounge, and , gift shop, even though the prices are a bit high, that is the norm in the Durango area, we will definately stay here again should we find ourselves nearby.

For those backpackers who want a really easy trip. Fly into durango, stay at hilton, walk across street to catch durango to silver ton steam engine. Train lets you off in San Juan Mtns at 8000 feet and start backpacking. Plan on minimum 4 days to do the full loop.

Hotel is nice and right on river and bike path. Best location in town. Next door to grocery store so you can load up for the hike!

Room tip: request river view

Good: Free shuttle from airport and to downtown, walking distance to downtown, grocery store next door, pool, in-room coffee maker, fridge, microwave, bathtub, TV, comfortable bed, quiet, spacious and good wifi.

Extra miles: If you need amenities like: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shaver and shaver cream, you could ask from the front desk. They gave for free willingly.

This is extra mile provided from a good hotel.

We spent three days and two nights at this outstanding hotel. It is within walking distance to the Durango-Leadville train and the incredible downtown. When they say walking distance, they do not mean "hike", as soon hotels do! We literally were downtown within seven minutes. The rooms themselves were very spacious, clean, and comfortable. We stayed in a second floor room with a balcony overlooking the Animas RIver walk. That was another perk of the Double Tree. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the spacious lobby was well appointed and relaxing. We wish we had had another day to try out their restaurant. We will be back!

We have stayed here many, many times when traveling thru. However this time it seems it is getting run down. The carpet is wearing badly, the rooms smell musty. The beds aren't as comfortable. The lamp shades are crooked. Just seems like it's going down hill. Needs a upgrade. The staff is fabulous and helpful. Way overpriced for what you get.
The breakfast is extra and lots to choose from, just way to much to expensive.
