Excellent staff and the rooms were very clean. Pool area was clean for the kids. Breakfast did not include hot items, but that was no big deal.

Our family stayed here for three nights on a road trip through Southern Colorado and were disappointed in this hotel. It does have potential, including convenient location just outside downtown, larger-than-average and well-kept rooms, updated bathrooms with two sinks, decent free continental breakfast, and a unique domed pool building.

However, especially in a multi-night stay, it's the details that can make or break the experience. During our stay, nearly all of the details fell on the negative side of the ledger:

1. The advertised wireless internet never worked even after front desk personnel "rebooted" it.

2. This being an older property, there are very few electrical outlets with which to recharge laptops, cell phones, iPODs, etc. Together with issue #1, this was easily the least tech-friendly hotel we experienced on our trip.

3. The bathroom had no exhaust fan, so the only option for ventilation was to open a window that faced an adjacent alley (none too private).

4. Between teenagers hanging out on the outside walkways at all hours and noisy neighbors in the adjacent rooms, this was not a peaceful place to return to in the evening. To their credit, hotel staff responded quickly to complaints about the noise, but there just seems to be something about these old-fashioned motor-hotels with the outdoor entrances that promotes this kind of behavior. We didn't experience anything like this in any similarly-priced hotels elsewhere on the trip (most with indoor corridors, FWIW).

5. The noisy A/C unit was barely able to keep the room at a comfortable temperature even at night.

6. The "free" HBO didn't work (reception was terrible). A small thing, admittedly, but it reinforced the feeling that we weren't getting what we paid for (especially at high peak-season rates).

Overall, while this place is far from terrible, there must be better options in Durango in the $100-130/night price range. We'll look elsewhere on our next visit.

In June we stayed at the Durango Best Western Mountain shadows for 5 days. The hotel was older but still fairly nice, the room seemed to have been remodeled a few years back. Everything was great from the room to the people working there. The only real complaint we had about it was that the air conditioner was as loud as a locomotive, in fact with the volume up high we could barely hear the TV over it, and it was too hot to live without it. On the whole we did enjoy our stay at this hotel and will stay here next time.

We stayed here on our way to Mesa Verde. We were given a 2nd floor room. The doors opened to the outside, which is great in the summer time. The pool was across the parking lot, however I felt safe allowing my kids to walk there.
The dome pool was pretty neat. We spent most of our time there and the kids enjoyed it. The stone around the hot tub is a great atmosphere for relaxing.
The hotel had no capacity so when we got back from supper, there was no place to park. One guest had taken up two spots and the hotel manager did not make them move. The motorcyclists took up a car space and did not utilize the motorcycle spots. We had to park next to the two spot person, and then move our car in the morning so it did not get hit.
We did not eat the cold cereal breakfast that was provided.
No bed bugs

We only were there for 1 night, but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room decor. Rooms were very nice and clean, beds were comfortable, and the staff was friendly and very helpful. You do have to walk across the parking lot to get to the pool, but it was also nicely maintained. Great value for the money.

Not cheap, but fair priced for what you get.

Traveling for two weeks we were starting to get accomodated to wooden buildings you hear every noise from neighboring rooms, not so here.

Nice Staff, good breakfast, Indoor pool, spacious room.
