Outstanding breakfast and friendly people make this place a great choice. It was a bit pricy. But when you add the breakfast in I guess it makes sense? Kids loved the garden!

Having never stayed at a bed and breakfast before I wasn't sure what to expect. The Rochester Hotel is over 100 years old and just full of fascinating history. The staff is very helpful in answering any questions we could ask. The rooms were comfortable and each one appears to have a different theme. It was great looking around and I loved the quiet garden in the back. The cookies they have out are the best ever. The location is great as it was within walking distance of the main street and lots of restaurants, shops and the Durango Silverton Train. Would recommend this to any of my friends or family.

This was a fun place to stay. Staff was great, location couldn't be better, and the room was small but comfortable. I booked a regular room rather than a suite and it was just fine for me. Had the breakfast (at an extra charge) across the street at the Leland House. It was fine but nothing special. Probably would have spent the $10 at a different location. And the internet connection worked fine.

The Rochester Hotel is a unique place to stay. It is only two blocks from downtown Durango. Built in 1892, it is full of history. The staff will even give you a tour of all of the theme rooms. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms have been renovated with modern conveniences. You must remember that is is 118 years old. Walls are thin and sounds carry. Late night arrivals were heard by everyone. Breakfast in the lobby was nice. Price was not cheap, but you are paying for the location and the history. Staff was very helpful. You can stay 6 miles away for half the price, but if you want to roam the streets of Durango, stay downtown.

The Rochester Hotel is a great place to stay in Durango! The location is perfect, with galleries and restaurants as close as across the street, getting around was a breeze! The rooms are authentically "western" and the bed were good. Breakfast was amazing each day with a planned menu for the week. Every morning there was fresh fruit, coffee and tea, and incredible granola. They also serve a breakfast made right in the kitchen. We loved the homemade quiche and blueberry pancakes. The spacious area for eating is lovely, we especially enjoyed the "train car" at the back of the building. The back courtyard was so relaxing and comfortable. A perfect place to gather with family or just read a book.

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed every minute. Staff was very friendly, breakfast was great and the hotel is only a block from main street. I would stay again at the Rochester.

We have stayed in Durango several times but always in budget lodges which were fine but we wanted to step it up a little this visit and treat ourselves. We were very glad to have picked the Rochester for our stay. At checkin we were told that they upgraded us from the queen room we chose to a king room. Checkin was easy and efficient and staff was very friendly.
You technically checkin at the Leland House across the way. We were walked across the street to our accomodations. The decor is really cool, with a western theme focused on movies that were filmed locally. Each room has a "theme". Ours was Secret Passage. Photos from the movie were displayed in our room and outside each room, the movie poster is displayed with marquee lights around it which light up at night. Sweet!

On the first floor is a lobby/dining area. When we arrived there was tea and homemade hot cocoa as well as fresh baked cookies! The cookies were sooooo delicious. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Love the Aveeda amenities and mint chocolate bar made by a local chocolatier left on the bed. Our room was only equipped with a shower, not sure if others have a bath. Also, our tv remote didn't work as well as the cd player on our alarm clock. This wasn't of great importance to us so we never brought it up but i'm sure it would have been fixed immediately if we had. There was a copmuter available down the hall with internet access which was convenient.

The best part about the ROchester Hotel is the breakfast. They have a complimentary continental breakfast with one hot item rotated through the week. I was expecting a chafing dish with soggy old eggs or french toast but to our delight as we came down the stairs we were greeted warmly and a wonderful fresh breakfast was made for us. The breakfast was scrambled eggs with feta cheese and fresh basil from their garden, served with hash browns and multi-grain bread. There was also homemade granola offered as well as various baked goods (also made locally) and fresh fruit. It was a great start to a day of riding on Purgatory.

I would highly recommend this hotel if you are traveling to Durango. One thing to note is that if you stay in the Leland House you would have to cross the street for breakfast so I would recommend staying in the Rochester.
