Some friends and I stayed at the Rochester Hotel while on a fishing trip and all really enjoyed the stay. The rooms are very spacious clean and full of antiques. The breakfasts were very good, homemade scones, banana bread, raspberry french toast, cereal, and great homemade granola. They also served egg omelets, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, orange juice, and on and on. There is a nice little bar and in the evening there were some really good chocolate-chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies.
All the employees were super friendly and Carolyn in the morning perks you right up. Absolutely will be back.

Room Tip: We had 6 different rooms in our group and no-one had a complaint with any of them

We are thrilled to hear you not only had a wonderful time on your fishing trip, but that you enjoyed staying with us here at the Rochester Hotel! Kelly and Carolyn's afternoon cookies are always a showstopper - next time you stay you must try the gingersnaps!

I love this hotel and always look forward to staying here when I go to Durango. Somehow managing to be high-quality/high-end but not stodgy, with funky decor, delicious non-hotelesque breakfasts, and very friendly and warm staff. Add warm, freshly-baked cookies, local artists displayed in the common area, some beautiful landscaping in the courtyard/sideyard (nice place to hang out on a warm day and would be a great site for a small wedding), a couple pet-friendly rooms in the back, and the little bar area and I am in heaven. The only minus is the parking, but what can they do, build a parking lot? An excellent restaurant and wine/coffee bar across the street, Steamworks brewing a block away... absolutely love it.

Thank you so much for your review! It makes us very happy to hear our breakfast was enjoyable and our staff was friendly. We do strive to welcome all guests into a warm and relaxing environment. In regards to the parking frustration, we certainly do the best we can with our limited space - thank you for your understanding. Hope you made it home safely and we look forward to your next visit!

I had the great fortune to stay three nights at the Rochester Hotel with friends earlier this month. We were in Durango to sing in a 130 voice chorale with the San Juan Symphony.
The atmosphere at the Rochester is wonderful, the rooms are clean and large and the staff is totally friendly and cheerful. Special shout out to Nancy and Carolyn who serve the most tasty, made to order breakfast each morning. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining area with an eclectic assortment of art on the walls. A variety of cold foods is available to choose from if you're not able to wait for a hot breakfast: fresh fruit, homemade breads and scones, granola, yogurt, cold cereal, coffee, OJ, tea and milk. Each afternoon there are fresh homemade cookies and hot tea available. (Desiree was also a friendly breakfast server.)
We stayed in room 104 on the first floor, a double queen room. Plenty of room to move around. We spent some time every morning grousing about not having an electric outlet in the bathroom and having to use the blow dryer in the bedroom area at a floor level outlet . . . however the laugh was on us as I found the outlet on our last morning, on the wall behind the hand towel which was folded so nicely on the rack!! ;)
Limited parking at the rear of the hotel, 8 spaces, but you can park behind the Leland House Hotel across the street, if needed.
You won't be disappointed if you stay at the Rochester Hotel! We'll be back!

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so if you don't want to haul your luggage upstairs, ask for a room on the...

This was our fifth trip this year to the Rochester Hotel/Leland House in Durango, Colorado. We have explored several more rooms in the main Hotel, The Rochester - previous years we stayed at the Leland House (which belongs to the hotel) across the street. The rooms in the main hotel are spacious, delightfully furnished and have a deep sense of history. We love #202 which overlooks the main entrance, and then also #108 and #107 out in the back which open directly into the beautiful and romantic garden/courtyard, where breakfast is served on warm days. The staff continues to amaze us, my husband came down with a nasty cold during our last visit and the hotel team went wayyyyy beyond to make sure he was comfortable. Parking is easy, loaner bikes are waiting, the bar has great drinks, there is music on weekends, guests walk to every restaurant and attraction in town and the breakfast continues to be one of the best meals we have ever had on a trip. Kirk, the owner, Laurie, who runs the front desk, and the whole team of the hotel are passionate about their work and this special place and it shows. 5 Star Excellence and Consistency, highly recommended, not only during road trips, but as a DESTINATION!

Room Tip: Rooms in the Leland House across the street have kitchens. Rooms in the main hotel (Rochester) are v...

We were very impressed with the hotel. The rooms were really a nice size and the bed was comfortable. The rooms were done with a lovely old time theme. Not over the top but tastefully. The cookies in the afternoon were delicious and so was the morning breakfast, it was made to order. The only negative is the parking. Tight quarters in the back and overflow in a near by lot. Hotel is well located in downtown Durango. Highly recommend and would stay again. If you are AARP member, ask and they will give you a discount.

first hotel we've ever stayed in that felt like a home away from home, thanks to Diane and Kirk (owners) and all the staff. Great breakfast, parties in the courtyard, loaner bikes, right downtown (and Durango has some really fun restaurants to walk to), free parking, super dog friendly.
We used it as a base to explore SW Colorado and can't wait to go back this winter for skiing at Silverton and Wolf Creek. We took the Durango-Silverton train to check out the fall foliage, and it's only a couple blocks walk to the train station. Also can walk/bike Durango's excellent trail along the Animas River. Also a great "doggie day care" (called Healthy Hounds and Fat Cats) very close by for folks who want to spend time at Mesa Verde. Could not have enjoyed Durango more!! Big thanks to Hotel Rochester.

The Rochester offers a quiet bar and a beautiful garden in which to relax after periods of sight seeing in the Durango area. Additionally, they offer music in the garden with a variety of local bands. Coupled with local ranchers supplying grilled burgers from organic beef, you can't find a better place to kick back for an hour or two. The Hotel has a historic theme to it with rooms decorated with beautiful period furniture. Visitors to Durango will enjoy the opportunity to rub shoulders with the many locals who enjoy the hospitality of the hotel owners and staff. To enhance the ambiance, rotating displays of art and photographs grace the bar and reception area.

Dear Wallace W,

Thank you for taking the time to review The Rochester Hotel and we are thrilled you not only enjoyed your stay but were able to take part in our (inaugural) summer concert series! While the music has stopped until it warms up again, the art exhibits will continue.

Thank you again!
