We had eaten Thanksgiving dinner at the Mahogany Grill in both 2010 and 2011 and had outstanding meals.....service, food, everything. The turkey was fresh-roasted and hand-cut, the dressing was flavorful, there was abundant gravy, etc. I probably wrote a glowing review in 2011.
We were therefore looking forward to the same experience in 2012, but it was not to be. The turkey this time was machine cut, the dressing was just chunks of bread, there was very little gravy. Everything was luke-warm. It took a full hour from the time we sat down to the time we were served the turkey dinner (salad did come promptly). We do not fault the wait-staff in any way; they were just fine. Honestly, we could have bought the same turkey dinner at the Safeway deli for a lot less money.
We found out after the fact that the restaurant's very talented chef from the prior two years had left several months ago.
It pains me to give this absolutely beautiful, historic restaurant only a 2-star rating, given our prior excellent experiences. We do hope that it will come back to its former excellence.
