We were seeking an economical choice for a weekend trip to Durango. Since we havent done much camping with the kids (ages 3, 6) we thought a cabin at the Riverside would be a great faux-camping experience. It was ! We reserved two cabins side by side for our family, and our friends. It was great. The kids loved the bunk beds. We came ready to put out sleeping bags but learned you can get a "linens" package which included sheets, blankets, towels etc. for $35 extra, so we went that route. The linens were very clean and good quality. The beds were not luxiourious, but, we didnt expect them to be. Bring an air mattress or topper if that is an issue for you. The fire ring was fun, smores for the kids! and if you forget anything, there is a small convenience store on property. The ONLY thing we didnt like about the cabins was that about 4 feet from the front of the cabin, it drops 15 feet down to the rivver's edge. We were nervous about that with the kids and hypervigilent about them walking back and forth between our two cabins even. We wanted to be on the river, but didnt realize we would be quite that close. And yet too high up to even throw a kids fishing line out.

The facility is great. The pool was great, I think I heard it had been redone? It was lovely, clean, with new patio furniture and the kids had a blast. We were close to the larger shower/restrooms facility, which was kept super clean. I popped into a smaller one shower/restroom closer to the lodge and noticed that one had benches in the shower stalls. We were not there long enough to use the game room laundry or movies, but, thought it was great that they were available. There isnt a "restaurant" but a lounge that occasionally has a pancake breakfast or pizza, etc.

Had a great time. Would return.

We recently spent a week in one of the charming cabins right on the Animas river. The cabin was comfortable and immaculate as were the entire grounds. The sound of the river lulled us to sleep every night, and the large deck furnished with picnic table and a big porch swing was the perfect place to nap, read, visit with friends and family, and just enjoy the beautiful river and gorgeous mountain scenery! We enjoyed the beautiful heated pool and relaxing in the comfy lounge chairs during the day, and sitting around a campfire and star gazing at night (unbelievable night sky!) This is a great location to feel like you are getting away from it all, but close enough to enjoy the restaurants and tourist attractions that Durango (10 minutes south), and Purgatory, Silverton, Ouray ( a short distance north in the mountains) has to offer. The friendly, hard working and efficient staff and excellent managers went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We highly recommend this resort and will definitely come back again!

The first night of our vacation we stopped at the KOA in Durango, which was nice, but my husband wanted something a little different so went looking the next morning. Late that first morning we found this place and stayed two nights, no reservations. We have a pop up camper and got a tent space with no electricity/water, which is what my husband chose. Before we paid, an employee took us around in a golf cart to show us the open spaces and the restrooms, etc. The restrooms were clean, a huge plus. The park was quiet, I felt bad making any noise, afraid we were disturbing others. They had employees riding around in the mornings collecting garbage, etc, but we took ours to the big dumpster available at the front anytime we ate. Everyone was very friendly and we enjoyed fishing and wading in the river next to the park. It was beautiful here and I would stay there again. They had a pool but we didn't use it. Got ice cream from their shop one evening. Had a game room but we didn't use it, but it looked nice. Used laundry, which was clean and so great! They also had movie night, which my kids enjoyed. Movie played outside on a deck.

We arrived shortly after the resort had opened for the 2010 season. Everyone was still learning the ropes and they were still readying the resort. Because of a couple very minor mix ups, and how we took them in stride, we were treated to a wonderful upgrade. Everyone was very friendly and we hated to move on. The cabins are nicely equipped and have fabulous porches for sitting by the water, which was really rushing this spring. Can't speak to peak season, but we would (and have) highly recommend early season, before schools break for the summer and families take over the campgrounds! We traveled for 8 weeks across the country and these were some of our best nights!

Pros: Great Location, we liked being 12 miles north of Durango. Campers very friendly, and we felt safe. The staff was helpful and picks up your trash daily from your site. Hot water every time we showered. We stayed in a tent and our site had its own fire ring, picnic table, parking space, and water spigot. You can also get a site with electricity. It was nice to have a laundromat there.
Cons: Our tent site did slope a little and there were lots of ants. The showers need to be cleaned at least once a day because they get muddy from use.
Overall, we would go back again. We had a great time.
Reserve well in advance for a good tent or RV site.

The staff was friendly, restrooms/showers clean, children's activities and close to attractions. We stayed in our vintage camper with 2 children (6 &15). The kids enjoyed the game room, swimming pool and nightly movies. We did not use the restaurant. The store appeared well stocked and contained basic camping goods and t-shirts. Our site was comfortable and the area was clean and quiet. We did walk to the cabins which looked really nice on the river.
