“worst inn i ever stayed in”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2010

This motel is not worth staying in. We stayed there because we had trouble finding a room elsewhere and had been told that Budget was good. Boy were we wrong to stay there. The air conditioner did not ever get even cool, much less cold. The inn keeper finally gave us a fan but it was so hot that we did not get any sleep. When i let the person at the desk know how bad the room was he just sail " oh well". He did not ogger any help at all. I will never stay here ever again and we go to Durango at least 3 times a year. We will find someplace else to stay.
Worst motel ever.

On paper, it looks okay, but don't believe it. The rooms are small, broken curtain, saggy mattresses, stained cloth chairs, cigarette burns in carpet, a pool that was a glorified bath tub (didn't look too clean either), seedy clientele in addition to being noisy at all hours, amateur (at best) caulking all over, doors in need of painting, gnats everywhere... The only amenity was two small bars of soap - no clock radio, no shampoo, no coffee pot (but you can get a cup of brown water from a thermos at the office when they open at 8 am) minimal towels for three people... Durango should be embarrassed to have this sorry excuse for a motel in their town. It is the worst place I have stayed in for decades and I had to have my kids put up with it, too. It's a good thing that the wi-fi eventually started to work so they could look at something other than an eyesore. You would have to be desparate to stay here. I only gave it a star to make sure my opinion registered, but then, there actually were two beds. As far as a recommendation (below), it would have to be to someone I really, really disliked.

We booked this hotel on our way from Cortez to Durango. As we were on a budget we thought this would be ok. When I called the receptionist was very friendly and said he had one room left w/ a king bed for $59. I had him to hold it for me. We arrived around 5pm and checked in. The whole place was very sketchy from the other people who were staying here (they appeared to be permanent residents...cooking outside of their rooms), to the appearance of the room. It had a no smoking sign on the door, but it was very stuffy and smoky inside. The bedspread had a cigarette burn in it and one of the chairs had a big stain on it as well as the carpet. Since we had a long day at Mesa Verde, we let our 8 year old son swim in the pool. We did get towels from the front office and we also had to be let into the pool b/c it was locked. While we were at the pool, we saw many tow trucks and construction type people checking in. My husband was very uncomfortable with the looks these gentlemen were sending in my direction. He was also very leery about the smoky room as our son has asthma. After about 30 minutes in the pool area we went back to the room and my husband wanted to check out. He went to the front desk and asked for a refund explaining the asthma situation. The clerk offered a humidifier, but my husband declined and we got our money back and went down the street to the Best Western where we checked into a much nicer atmosphere for $107. You could not pay me to stay at the Budget Inn...I'd be afraid of bed bugs or the seedy clientele they cater to. I'm so glad we were able to get a refund and go elsewhere. As another traveler mentioned, you'd be better off sleeping in your car.

Stayed for one night. Upon arrival one of our neighbouring rooms appeared to be occupied by a bunch of shady looking people. Being very tired after a long car ride we decided to take the room anyway. Big mistake. Funky smell, very dirty carpet (feet were black after 5 minutes walking barefoot) huge bloodstain on side of matress. And our shady neigbours (who appeared to be permanent residents) started a big fight outside on the parking lot. With all the shouting going on I didn't sleep a wink.
Durango is a great town and has a lot of motels/hotels. Pick another one and pay a little more.

yes this motel should pay the guests to stay...we went to ride the train, so needed 2 nights accommodation & being on budget went here...had to keep going to front desk...wi fi wouldnt work...door card wouldnt work...rooms are that old in need of knocking down & rebuilding...only good thing is the tourist trolley runs quite frequently up the street & is free....would look elsewhere & pay extra than stay here again

This hotel is of the worst ever and the management is rude on top of it, plus they ripped us off on the room rate. Charged us $30.00 more per night than what was advertised on the sign. Sign also said seniors discount which they would not give us!
The air cond. smelled like it had a dead animal in it. Hardly any towels in room. Out of order ice machine. They sold us ice instead. Pool was dirty and down right gross.
Dirty place and jerks on top of it.
