Description: Steamworks Brewing Co. Opened its doors in Durango in September 1996. A favorite watering hole for locals and visitors alike, the brewpub has much more to offer than award-winning craft beer. Known as a town meeting place, Steamworks enjoys a bustling, fun environment. Steamworks' culinary program is unmatched in the region in both breadth and quality of offerings. The "gastropub" fare includes regionally-raised meats and sustainable seafood. Healthy salads, delicious pizzas, spicy Southwestern-style dishes, and vegetarian & gluten-free offerings provide something for everyone who's hungry. The Steam Engine Lager is "arguably the best American - Style Amber Lager in the world" as it has garnered four Gold Medals, a Silver and a Bronze Medal at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) over the years and also has taken a Silver Medal at the World Beer Cup (WBC). Steamworks has won a total of twelve GABF medals, and two WBC medals. The brewpub maintains up to 18 styles of beer on tap.

Had dinner there twice recently. Beer and food were good both times, and I can recommend the Cajun boil as something to experience at least once. The first time we sat in the bar which is a much better experience than the backroom. I definitely recommend Steamworks but perhaps not on a Saturday night when they are very busy.

“Enjoyable local experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

Just spending a few hours in Durango while driving through the area. I enjoy trying local beers so gave it a try. Beer and food were good with some interesting and different choices. Service was good but we were not there during peak time.

“Approved by the locals!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

I have been a Durango local for 8 years, and Steamworks is a staple for me. Good beers and great food are the reasons I keep coming back. They have a wide variety of both food and beer. The service is typically very good. There are lots of special deals, esp. on Thursdays and Fridays. This is great and in contrast to a lot of the local specials at other establishments. The places that only have specials on Mondays and Tuesdays don't do much for someone who tries not to go out or drink on those days. Thursday pint nights and Friday draws are great. Firkin Fridays are the best! Steamworks does a great job of rotating their menu, and it always has high quality food for the price. They have the best red chile in town. Great burgers (local meat and other ingredients), salads, and great variety overall. Third Eye Pale Ale is a staple. The Conductor Imperial IPA is excellent, though pricey. You can't beat the Backside Stout on nitro, and it's always good to get the seasonals. I still look forward to going back after 8 years. The patio at sunset is pure Durango!

“Long.. long.. long.. long wait for everything....”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

Ate there 10/9 based on recommendation from hotel clerk and good ratings on Trip Advisor... However, can not say we had the same experience as ratings and recommendations would suggest. Just one of those days??

Told the wait was 5 min... Took 20 to get to table.. Then another 20 min to have the waiter approach our table and take our order.. Never got any of the famous peanuts.. Took another 40 min to get our meal after ordering.. Did not dare to order desert to see how long that would take. Got to say the beer was good... service not so much..

Four adults and two kids had a great time. Great food, good beer. Very kid friendly. Will go back. Kids drew on the floor with chalk. It was great.
