While waiting for our condo at Cascade Village we went to Durango Mountain to entertain the kids. The adults ordered drinks at Bear Bar at Purgy's (outside structure). Note...they close down the outside bar at 5:00 PM.
It began raining and we ventured inside to Purgy's and eventually decided to stay for dinner. Wish we had taken the time to drive into Durango where there are MANY restaurants from which to choose. Now I know better.
Two adults shared a burger and some of my huge portion of garlic mashed that came with my flank steak. The steak was done correctly and was pretty flavorful, but rather chewy. The 16-year old loves fettuccine alfredo with chicken so he ordered that. He ended up later in the evening vomiting, along with diarrhea and stomach cramps. We concluded it was HIS food, as no one else was sick. Give that some thought.
You really don't have much of a choice of places to eat in the area of Durango Mountain,. The Old Schoolhouse down the road is a tiny shack that serves pizza and has a pool table. It's a bit "crusty" looking inside and gets crowded, with a very long wait for food. You can also choose The Sow's Ear, also on the road in the Durango Mountain Resort (a bit more upscale atmosphere)
Purgy's is basically a big room with a big fireplace, a lot of tables and with large windows at one end. It probably "rocks" during ski season,, but not so much that evening. Service was adequate, friendly, but nothing special.
In the future, I'll stick to drinking at the Bear Bar outside. The handmade chips there are quite good and the Staff is always upbeat. Bear Bar was my favorite on the Mountain on my last visit here and it remains the same
