..a plus to go in here for a few hours. The museum tells the history of Durango. It's in a 3 store school house that was used in Durango. Really interesting, and the kids loved it. The staff gives them a scavenger hunt to do while touring the museum looking for different things in all the rooms.

On the grounds is a cabin that is furnished in the pioneer days, and it is really NEAT. Worth a stop - and the price is VERY reasonable...

I live in Animas City so I have went to the Animas City Museum several times. They some of the regular exhibits and then special exhibits throughout the year. I think it's fun to be in an old historical building learning about the history of Durango. Looking at the old photographs is fun. The special Christmas events are also fun. They always have good vendors and it's a fun time. I always like taking my family and friends there as well. It a fun way to spend an afternoon! I think admission is $3 or something. So you can't beat that for entertainment! It's practically free!

If you like Durango you owe it to yourself to visit this museum. It was not costly to gain admission and we learned much about both the city and the surrounding countryside. For example, there had been an incredible old west gunfight between the marshall and the sheriff at one time. Exhibits were on the train to Silverton, mining, farming, and highlights of Durango history including bad times as well as good times.
The building had been an early school and one room was fixed up as an old time classroom. It's in the northern part of the city and I am guessing nearly three miles from the downtown but you can get there on the free trolley that would stop close by. There is also a small parking lot in back. Three floors make up the museum and an out building is an old one room home that you can enter to see what kind of homes people lived in more than a century ago. Very worthwhile visit and we were glad we stopped for about 90 minutes.
