We booked a trip in connection with our Durango & Silverton Railroad.

The river was only flowing in the 340cfs range but the trip was still great. The guide you get makes all the difference.

Our guide, Cody, was excellent. Engaged with all the people in the boat, had his share of bad jokes (ask him where Bill Murray's summer home is) and made the trip enjoyable for our family.

We have already started talking about our next trip to Mountain Waters.

The only change we would make would be to book the railroad and raft on separate days. You pay more for the convenience of getting shuttled to/from Silverton.

You are so right Eric, the guide you get makes all the difference, and as I respond to each and every review I can tell you that ALL of our guides have received great reviews which we are very proud of. And I agree about doing the rafting and train on separate days, Durango visitors are over achievers doing everything in one day, but I gots to give the peoples what they want, lol:)

Took the 11AM half day Animas raft trip on 7/23/16. We took the optional $5 wet suit boots since the bottom of the raft would be quite wet. That was a good choice since our street shoes would have been soaked without the boots. Matt was our guide and had our group paddling as a team almost immediately. On this date the river flow was slow and lazy except in a couple of sections where Class II and Class III rapids were present. We had one person in our group with no experience and there were two of us who had taken trips on Class III and IV. So the Class III was lots of wet fun, however, for most of our trip we floated leisurely along and enjoyed the sights with Matt telling jokes and imparting bits of interesting information about Durango. Also, we enjoyed 45 minutes of steady drizzle, yes since it was hot the rain was welcome.Highly recommend this trip for first timers or anyone just wanting to be on the river and relax. Keep in mind, the water flows much faster earlier in the season requiring more skill on your part.

Tis truly a leisurely float at this time of year, and as Jon said, it's a completely different experience in May and early June. The one constant is how dang good the guides are who keep it safe and fun, Cheers!

Had a great experience rafting with our guide Elise down the Animas River. The instruction was good, and our guide always knew which route to take down the Rapids.

My husband, son, and I went down the lower Animas river with Mountain Waters Rafting. We first took the train from Durango to Silverton. Had lunch in Silverton. Caught a shuttle back down to Durango with a friendly helpful and knowledgeable driver. Then met Anna our guide down the lower Animas! She was wonderful and put safety first. There were three boys on the raft and she made the slow moving parts fun for them! I would recommend this trip for anyone with small children or beginners. Ana was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and all around great guide. The water was low and she guided us thru like a pro down lines we couldn't even see. Thanks for the fun. Oh and the company wasn't sure if the photographer would be able to take our pics so they sent both family's down with a waterproof camera and ended up taking our pics anyway.

We are proud to have been chosen to be the official provider of the Raft & Rail package for the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Rail Road. Pete has been a great addition to the driving team and he tells me he enjoys this more than driving for the school district! And although Anna is enjoying her third year with us she has truly graduated to the pro ranks and guides rafts on the Class IV-V Upper Animas this year too. Thanks for the review Jennifer.

What a well-priced adventure. We took a half-day rafting trip down the Animas and it was fun, beautiful, and exhilarating. Mountain waters literally takes hundreds of people down this river every day so they really know their stuff. A teenager fell from his kayak (also an option instead of raft) and he was immediately pulled from the river by guide. The guide's focus was on-point. The safety instruction is very good and so it's a great learning experience about the dangers of a river. Good job, Mark. During July, the river isn't as high as it is, of course, in May, but still offers a few rapids. Our female guide (Jamie) was highly experienced and had a way of giving instruction and eliciting teamwork from her raft in a positive way. PFD's were high quality and the whole operation was smooth. We were shuttled to and from river and given a snack stop. They make a rafting trip look easy, but it's not. Great logistics and teamwork by the staff.
