This was an amazing rafting trip which started at 8AM walking from Mountain Waters Rafting in the Albertson's parking lot over to the Durango Silverton Train Station about 1 block away on July 4th 2016. Our guides Tarek, John, and Elliott had our tickets and the rafts already loaded on the train. There was a concession rail car on the train but we did not bring our wallets with us. We took the train up to our drop off point with perfect weather. Once we arrived, we hung out on the Animas River Bank while the guides rigged the boats which took 30 minutes. Then, we suited up in our wetsuits, loaded the boats with our backpacks and change of clothes, and headed down the rapids. Warning: The persons who sit in the front get splashed the most. I felt paddling was minimal with the guides steering and we only had to paddle continuously for 1-2 minutes max. Although I was sore the next day in my forearms, I felt like I could do the Class V rapids easily. We hit up Broken Bridge Rapids, Lunch Gorge, Dinner Gorge and many others along the way. We exited the river, unsuited, and waiting for the guides to de-rig the boats which was another 30-40 minutes. That is when it started raining and it was cold. Good thing we had rain jackets. We jumped back on the train for a short 40 min ride to another drop off point in which we took a van back to Durango arriving around 6:30pm. The train ride was scenic, the rafting was spectacular, and the passion from the guides made the trip a very memorable experience. Worth every penny.
