“Good choice”
Reviewed May 31, 2007

The Leland house was very nice. The staff was very friendly and the room was spotless. Breakfast is served across the street at the Rochester hotel. The hotel is in a charming building right dowtown and they have bikes you can borrow. The only downside I found was that, since the parking is around back, getting your luggage to your room requires some effort. Pack lightly! I would definitely stay here again. The price is a little on the high side.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Leland House. We had reservations at a cheap hotel in Durango, but backed out when we saw the rooms. So we went to the Chamber of Commerce to find another hotel and decided that something a lot higher priced would suit our needs better. We have stayed at several B&Bs in other states so we jumped at the chance when we were told Leland House had room for us. The room was quite small, but the queen size bed was very comfortable and the room even had a tiny kitchen area with sink, cupboards and refrigerator. It was stocked with glassware, utensils and dishes for those choosing to eat in the room and had a very small 2-person table and chairs.

The window A/C served well not only to cool the room, but also to block out noise from the hall and the adjacent rooms. Without A/C in the wintertime, I imagine it could be rather noisy.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were given two great dining recommendations which were big hits. Ken and Sue's is a wonderful bistro-type restaurant for dinner.

The full breakfasts at Leland House were excellent - fruit, cereal, yogurt, baked goods, and a gourmet hot entree each day.

If I had one complaint, it would be the coffee at breakfast. Not good. Luckily there was a coffee maker with gourmet-type coffee available in our room though.

I would highly recommend Leland House for a combination sightseeing excursion/romantice getaway in Durango.

My family and I (two adults and three kids, aged 12, 14, and 18 months) stayed at the Leland House/Rochester for almost a week. We will definately return, and would recommend the hotel to anyone who enjoys bed and breakfasts. We stayed in the Pittman Suite, which has two bedrooms, two baths, a living room, a fullly equiped kitchen, and a sitting room. It also has a washer/dryer, which was fabulous.

We loved everything about the hotel. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The decor is funky and nice. Our toddler fell in love with the hotel's little resident dog, Stitch. The hotel is very kid and family friendly. The breakfasts were tasty and had variety. The afternoon tea and fresh cookies were great. The bath amenties were all Aveda, which was lovely.

The suite's two bedrooms each have a queen bed and there is a futon which we put in the living room for our 14 year old. The futon was far more comfortable than our mattress, however. The only thing that could have made the stay better would have been a nice memory foam mattress pad....

The hotel is in a great location one block from main street and walking distance to everything in the historic downtown, including the train terminal. If you go, be sure to try the Cyprus Cafe next door. Amazing food. Also for anyone travelling with small children, take a four block stroll to P is for Peanut, a unique and really fun kid's cafe. Also, the Rocky Mountain Kids Company on Main street rents strollers that tackle the snow very easily.

This is such a cute little B&B located close to downtown. If you like staying in an old western feeling hotel, this is the place.
