Owner description: Hop aboard a coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive that travels along the same railroad tracks that miners, cowboys and the early settlers of the Old West used over a hundred years ago. The route winds in and out of canyons and past open wilderness affording great views. The price of a ticket also includes admission to the D&SNGRR Museum and the Silverton Freight Yard Museum.

This is one of the best steam train journeys in the world. The views are spectacular, with shear drops of hundreds of feet inches away from the track. You experience an authentic journey in a genuine original carriage. The 'guide' in our coach gave us loads of information about the history of the line, and how various films have used the train and the surrounding area, notably 'Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. When you get to Silverton you have about 2 hours before you have to get back on again, so plenty of time to eat and do some retail therapy!

This was my second time to ride the train. The first time was during the winter and was a beautiful experience with snow on the ground. This time added a new beauty as the leaves were beginning to turn. This was so much better than riding a tour bus. Durango is an ideal destination spot with so many other things to offer.

The train ride from Durango to Silverton was probably the highlight of our vacation. It was a wonderful experience, meeting the new people, walking around the town of Silverton - EVERYONE was so friendly. We had a GREAT time.

The Durango and Silverton Polar Express experience was so much fun. Well worth the cold of the "North Pole". The story book, hot hot hot chocolate was exciting and guess what? Our silver bells rang out! So we are believers!!! You will also enjoy the train museum.

You have to indulge yourself in this historic treasure! Absolutely beautiful trip through the San Juan Mountains to Silverton from Durango. Ride in First Class if you can. Such a neat deal. Everyone that works there just a pleasure!
