First of all, do NOT make reservations through DurangoTours.net. Arrange your tour with Outlaw directly. They were much more helpful and accommodating. We had a blast on our quarter-day tour. Our guide really made it fun for our 4 and 6 year-old, plus he had some great stories to share about the past and history of the La Plata Canyon area that appealed to the adults as well. We saw some great scenery, plus experienced some crazy back roads that no passenger car would ever be able to handle. They're a pretty laid-back bunch so I'm sure some people might view that negatively, but we had a blast!

We took the river tour and it was ok due to the river being low, not their fault. We also rented a jeep. Price was the only issue. Website had one price. By the time the insurance and other fees are added it ended up being over $300 for a one day rental which is too high. Off road trip was awesome. Overall ok place but not well organized and prices are not clearly stated.

My wife and I booked a rafting trip for us and our four kids with Outlaw. The folks there were great. Taylor was our rafting guide and he was fantastic. He was really good with the kids and had so much local knowledge of the area. We took his advice for lunch AND dinner that day and his recommendations did not disappoint. The kids said the rafting trip was their favorite part of our vacation and they are already asking to go back. Taylor seemed to know every inch of the river and was an expert on the raft. We were in safe hands, we had an absolute blast, and we would go straight back to Outlaw in a heartbeat.

We reserved 2 jeeps 2 months in advance of our trip. Well we got there the morning of and I guess one of their jeeps broke down the day before so we were left with one jeep and a Hummer, which was supposed to be an "upgrade". Well first the Hummer wouldn't go over 45 mph, it was unusually loud. So we did make it through Cinnamon Pass but on the way home it died on us. We called them and they told us to wait 15 minutes and try it again. So we did and it started. We drove for about 30 minutes and it dies again! So we called and were told the same thing. At this point we asked them to come pick us up because we had small kids with us and felt it unsafe being broken down on the side of the road, now twice. They of course refused to come get us! So then we decided to pile 6 people in the other jeep (that sat 5) because we felt this was safer than having our kids be stranded with this busted Hummer. So 3 of us stayed in the hummer and waited until it finally started again. We went about another 20 minutes and it die AGAIN!. This time we broke down on the highway coming through Ouray ( which is on the side of a mountain with no shoulder or guardrail) there was no where to pull over. So we had to wait here again waiting for it to start. When it did we only went for about 2 minutes before it dies again! This happened 5 TIMES! We were supposed to have them back by 6:30 but with all the breaking down we did not get back until 10:00. This wasted our last evening in Colorado. They were very reluctant to give us our money back but did finally in the end. The obvious point is that vehicle should never have been rented out! I feel it was unsafe to rent to people who are paying good money for what should have been a reliable vehicle. The gas gauge was broken so we put gas in it just about every chance we could to ensure this was not the problem ( about 4 times, which was expensive in itself). The doors would not open the from the inside you had to reach your arm through the window to open it. The wipers were completely worn out and even hanging down ( thank goodness we didn't need them). The registration was expired , according to the paper in the vehicle. There were wires hanging down on the drivers side. It was just not a good experience they don't seem to take care of their vehicles. The other jeep we rented was just fine, but still would recommend going somewhere else.
