Great location, not far from durango a beautiful 20 minute drive. Trails, lakes and of course the ski resort just minutes away... Cabin was beautiful, clean and had all the comforts of home. We made a full Thanksgiving dinner with ease in the fully equipped kitchen. We also loved that it had a griddle for pancakes after early morning hikes! Games/puzzles for in the evenings, cozy blankets, the fireplace, the VIEW, all of it was just perfect. Thanks to Kimberly and Mac, they were wonderful hosts, very attentive but not overbearing, just lovely nice folks. We hated to leave! Already planning our spring visit!
We stayed at the Mackey Log Cabin for 6 days. The accommodations were excellent. There was plenty of room for my family of six. The atmosphere was great for our family game nights, morning coffee, grilled meals and the wonderful soaks in the hot tub.
There are plenty of great hikes nearby. We first hiked to Castle Rock for a somewhat easy starter trail that provides great views of the immediate area. My daughter and boyfriend braved Engineer Mountain and had a fun day. We also spent a day tubing down the Animas River. It was very cold but lots of fun.
The city of Durango is accessible in about 25 minutes. Lots of great food and plenty of beer. We enjoyed Steamworks for dinner and Carvers for breakfast.
Our host Kimberly was very attentive and made sure we were happy with our stay. Overall, an A+ experience.
